Update!
Diatom bloom, added astrea snails, under control.

Purchased two clownfish and because i dont have a quarantine tank (yeah i know... i would love one but no room) added them to the tank after aclimation.

Day two everyone is eating good.

Cyano bloom, i was thinking it's been coming up since I installed my powerhead soooooooo I decided to change my powerhead from powerhead to circulation pump.
Fish were thrown to the other side of the tank, hermit crabs were ripped from their cubbies across the sand, clinging to whatever they could for dear life.

Hoping the increased flow will take care of the cyano since i didnt have it before i went to powerhead.

Yup, that outta do the trick.

Reefing question for you. My circulation pump is rated at 600 gph. Should I position it lower in the tank and point it up? Right now its above the halfway point, but the current seems to strong. I'm thinking of purchasing some base rock to put at the bottom to put some more "depth" in the tank and create a sort of buffer for the increased flow. TBH my family is worried because the clownfish seem to be "struggling". I tell them that they just have to get used to the flow, but alas my voice isn't heard.

Whats the total flow rating in the tank? My clown was able to swim up against 8400gph in my tank with no issues. It gives em excercise, they can find a spot to rest if need be. The placement of the pump is for pure circulation of the water so you have no dead spots. The fish won't have issues with it.

600 total. I have a HoB filter with GFO, but I dont think it creates much flow. So the circ pump is pretty much my go to flow.

600 in your 40g is good, Nemo shouldn't have any problems with it.

Still ok. Don't worry about it. Its not a huge amoune of flow, your just at the beginning of the 20x flow rate for a Reef.
My bad, thought we werre talking about the bigger one.

So. My update. It's been quite a while since I've been on. Working two jobs and barely have time for anything nowadays. The cyano.... it will not cease. I had the lights off for 5 days and then did a huge water change. Nothing....

Thanks! The only issue other than the cyano is the fact that I lost by CuC. For the most part my astrea snails have all since vanished. And I have only 2 or 3 hermits left. So I picked up a few bumblebee snails and plan on getting some other stuff on thursday.

Replacing the CUC is like an ongoing thing. I've had Bumble Bee snails though, for years now, pretty tough lil dudes.

I have 8 Bumblebee Snails in my 30g. Should I add more? I also want to get another Emerald Crab and possibly a Scarlet Reef Hermit. Some Shrimp... (maybe not the shrimp cuz my pistol shrimp seems to be a killer)

Im not real hot on using hermits for anything, they are scavengers and if hungry will go after things you don't want eaten. But on a good note, yes emeralds and scarlets are good ones to have if you do get them.
Can't have to many Bumble Bee snails, they don't cover much ground, so a bunch is good to have.

+1 I no longer keep hermits, they will take out your snails and then eachother.
