Old open bag of sand I want to use

I have a open bad of dry sand that has been open to the elements since it was outside and I want to use some to add about 3 cup to existing tank.
How should I clean the sand before I add it to the tank....can i just bake it to make sure there's no bacteria in it?

Rinse it in tap water then decorated water.
