Pruning dead branch off candy cane

I have a small frag of candy cane that has a dead branch connected to it, would it be ok to remove the dead bit down to the red line?

As long as there isn't any flesh, you should be fine.
I wouldn't worry about it personally... then again I would end up cutting into the good head accidentally :D
