Sold Banana grail, but its not?

I don't know the best place to put this. I bought a $500 splitting banana grail torch from a reef2reef vendor during black friday sale. The torch is a banana bright , but it has a purple base. It doesn't have a green base?

Also bought a banana torch off a reef2reefer, it also is bright, but purple base? I can only find SCC golden banana with a purple base. He said he got it from UC corals a few years ago. Paid $225

All banana variants have a green base, correct? If it has a purple base, its not a banana?

As far as I know the "banana" naming of torches is relatively new and I'm not sure some of these newer trade names vendors are using are totally consistent with each other.

From my understanding, that is not true, and every banana that is sold has a green base and bright yellow/gold.

Looking at the one from the reef2reef pic again, its hard to see, but it has a green base, but purple. I was sent one with a purple base, and its from a gold level sponsor.

A quick search on this forum for "banana torch" shows the first mention of one was just last year.

If what you received is different than the picture, did you reach out to the vendor yet?

Yeah said that that’s what they got from UC corals from one and just sent another text about the pic showing green.

This is the banana torch I bought. It’s hard to see, but you can see the green base going up the tentacles on some of them

If you received a different item than what was pictured for a WYSIWYG, you have a legitimate complaint that I hope would be resolved by the vendor or seller. If you received what was depicted however, I think you got what you paid for regardless if it fits your definition of the made up trade name.

You don't see the green tentacle base on some of the tentacles in the pic I posted? No purple

Just got a reply from the other vendor, and they just checked and the frag next to it is bright yellow with green base. It looks like they 100% sent the wrong one. They want a pic, and I'm going to send it once I get off work tonight.

It's a bad, grainy pic. You can see it better than me. That looks like a hobbyist pic to me, not the vendor pic, correct? I'll reiterate though, these trade names are made up and all vendors may not be following the same conventions.

Well, one of them. I can post a pic of the other banana torch. That pic I posted is all yellow with green. The one I got is yellow, and much more purple along the tentacles

Banana torch is solid gold / yellow tentacles with touches of purple at base

Banana grail is green base/mouth and yellow/green on the tentacles. And no purple at all

The lack of purple makes it a grail

Here are pictures. I own both. Hard to see but the smaller banana torch does have purple towards the mouth

Vendor told me regarding banana, more the torch extends the more chance of some purple. And to keep well fed and moderate flow (not high) to reduce extending

As far as I know, and I have been researching and shopping for banana torches for almost a year, there is no version that’s gold green and purple.

It’s either gold with slight purple - banana
Or green with gold - banana grail

The holy grail pic they sent clearly has green on its tentacles. Pic with two has holy grail banana on right and banana torch on left.

these are both healthy banana torches

I agree, neither is a grail

My grail is full grown and now 5 heads but I found pics of it when small to show that regardless of baby or adult - they have green and no purple

Get this. The one to the left in the above pic. Yea the “knicks”. I spent 400 on it. It’s a sun god. And is supposed to look like this all yellow in pic 1 like a banana. Pic 2 is when it arrived. It morphed on me and developed the purple on the first week. And I’ve never been able to get it back to full gold

Sun god can have yellow/gold with purple base and green mouth

My sun god experience led me to bananas and now I have 3 banana variants in two tanks

You are lucky. My seller did nothing for me regarding the sun god. I showed pics almost immediately showing the purple. He said he bought 5 from wholesaler and remaining 4 are doing the same thing in his tanks. He won’t sell anymore sun gods and still has the 4 leftovers a year later. I randomly messaged him and asked if he ever got the full gold back and he said…nope

No compensation no replacement. I was very clear I wanted a all yellow torch and no purple. And was promised that. And was sold. A half purple torch.
