We all know how to whip out a toothbrush and a glass scraper to scrub-a-dub-dub 1 hour before a tank photoshoot. We all do it. Don't try to pretend you don't!
You also probably spend 15-30 minutes trying to get that PERFECT angle while at the same time waiting for that REALLY cool fish to be in JUST the right spot but also, magically IN FOCUS before snapping that pic! I know I do!
Screw the charade for a minute. It's the end of summer. Labor Day is coming up. You probably let your tank maintenance slip a little bit this summer, but that's okay. We all did! And guess what, our tanks got dirty. That's right, we have dirty tanks. Playing outside, going to the pool, mowing the lawn, visiting the lake, and everything else that requires us to actually go outside took precedence over staying cooped up indoors while we fine tuned our glass boxes full of water.
I think sometimes it can be intimidating for newer members to constantly see photos of these 5+ year old pristine tanks that have slowly accumulated untold thousands of dollars worth of equipment to help make them more manageable, and have, of course, also undergone the aforementioned deep pre-cleaning prior to an hour long nit picky photo op. Wouldn't it be nice if the noobies felt more comfortable showing off their own little corner of the reef, even if that little corner has a few blemishes? I mean, eye candy is eye candy, right?
So, let's see how dirty your tank got this summer! Show off that hair algae! Let us see that big bubble algae colony you've been growing for two months! Maybe you even let a little Cyano slip into the back corners. WHO CARES!? It's summer time. Forget the perfect camera angle for a second, don't even think about grabbing that tooth brush or a glass scraper, and go snap a quick photo of your dirty fish tank!
Look at all this nastiness I grew this summer!
Pretty sweet huh!? Let's see whose is dirtier!
