As far as lights I have Steve's LED's and have been very happy with them. I don't have a skimmer on my 12g because water changes keep it clean. As far as other tests, you need calcium, magnesium, alkalinity, phosphates, and either a hydrometer or refractometer to test for salinity. Calcium is an essential part of coral growth. Calcium, magnesium and alkalinity are key to keep in balance in your tank. Let me see if I can find a link for you.

depends on your budget and time

depends on your budget and time, If dont have time or money to spend extra go for the biocube

If you have the money go for a RED SEA AIO Setup.

If you like to DIY and start from scratch and have patience on times... Buy tank, drill tank, plumb it, buy sump, buy skimmer , cycle.. etc.

From the above the only one left for me is the REDSEA to try. But other than that on both experience is always a joy to just buy a biocube and setup.

As said above the cheaper route is the one I will take so if Biocube doesn't cost as much I will go that route. Any recommendations on what to stock it with?

Try and look for the biggest and cheaper AIO, if its a NANO I would recommend something like a shrimp a goby and a clownfish with corals... and a small rock... it all depends on what you like..
