I recently added magenta dottyback to my 75. The Talbot's damsel immediately started to bully him. I was able to get the dottyback out before it got killed. It has been in a little "critter cage" in the tank to keep it safe for the last two weeks. The damsel is obviously able to see it but can't get at it. Do you think enough time like this would get the damsel used to the other fish enough for them to get along? Should I try releasing the dottyback, or not risk it and just get rid of it?

I thought about that, it would be tough to get him out. Might be able to use a fish trap.

Try rearranging the tank before adding the fish back to the tank.

I agree with this advice, though the critter cage may have done the trick as well. If you do plan on releasing him just be prepared to remove one if the aggression is bad again.

It depends on your attachment to the damsel. If you really want to keep him then try re scaping. Otherwise maybe try to catch and rehome him.
