Using airstones to combat cyano?

Hi All,

I've been struggling with Cyano in my AIO fuge and had an idea that I am not sure will work. In my fuge I have a decent amount of live rubble for biological filtration and C. Prolifera for nutrient export ( I would have preferred to go with Chaeto but it was really hard to find last year when I started the tank). While this has been great for keeping my system low nutrient, it doesn't allow for a ton of flow which I think is contributing to the Cyano.

I'll note that the cyano doesn't seem to grow in the display portion, only in the middle section of the fuge.

My question is, has anyone tried using airstones to increase water movement and therefore make the fuge less amenable to cyano?

I have ChemiClean but want to avoid continually using it if I can. I can also consider removing the rubble and trying to replace the C.Prolifera with Cheato.

Have not tried air stones. I'm one of the lucky guys who only gets in in the display :crying-face:. I would love to only have it in the sump lol. Try it and see I spose, nothing to loose. I definately would not use chemiclean for cyano only in the sump / back chamber. While it usually works for cyano it does kill benificial bacteria as well (or so I have read)

I'll keep you updated. I try to avoid chemicals whenever possible, don't want to risk something worse than a little bacteria.
