Nassarius snails (ex. Nassarius margaritifer and Phrontis (Nassarius) vibex) are known to have opercula (though I hear they are thinner than those on whelks), and whelks can be incredibly varied (ex. Kelletia kelletii does not feature tattooed siphon patterning). Some of the information on the Melev’s Reef whelk article is not entirely true, which is where I assume most people are getting their information on aquarium whelks. That being said your snail doesn’t appear to be any species of Nassarius I know (especially given how lumpy it is) and looks very similar to the whelks in the article, so I would assume it’s not reef safe. This is a whelk correct? (trap door & pattern on snout)
