I have this budget reef light I got off Amazon a while back. Anyways could I keep a derasa clam and if not what about a thorny oyster or a flame scallop? I know this isn’t the most intense light but could I raise it up with some rock? Thanks in advance!

OMG, the par readings were taken in open air! So that means the numbers are even more reduced in water.

Instead of dropping some $$$ on a clam, I'd buy a better light first. Then you'll be able to keep a clam and a whole lot more!

Agree. Spend the extra money for a better light. Otherwise, you and the Clam will regret it. Penny-wise, pound foolish does not make for a successful reefing experience. :).

Most scallops and oysters are non photosynthetic, but they're also typically difficult to keep in a reef aquarium. Most require a lower water temperature and are purely filter feeders, So they require a constant and labor intensive feeding routine. Flame scallops fall into this category and are known to have an extremely high mortality rate after about six months.

I sadly would say your options for any kind of invert are very limited with that light

are scallops and oysters photosynthetic? I don’t exactly have the budget for something expensive.
You don't need an "expensive" light...you need one with more output. What would be your range for a new light?
If a light is too much, how much did you think you were going to spend on a clam?

Save up and spring for the actual Kessils. I use 360 wides on my 120 and they're nice.
