That's silly. My apt complex doesn't care, I have a 100g, 50g, and 9g in my apt and they don't do anything. Couldn't imagine getting charged for a goldfish lol. Usually they allow a certain amount of gallons you can have I thought

Not sure why it’s such a surprise? That’s pretty common and you’re lucky if your apartment even lets you have an aquarium, or if it does, more than 10 gallons. I own several fish tanks, but if I was to rent the house, I’d put the same clause in there. I’ve seen what even 10 gallons of water does to ceiling (tank emptied from my second floor down to the first floor) and that was over $500 in damage.
