I dislike Orphek because they use super high kelvin, low CRI whites, I forget, but they may use knockoff leds.
Kessils are sweet, however the A150s aren't controllable or even dimmable.
I agree that Maxspects spotlight is not very pretty.

ORPHEK's is not too high of spectrum. Look at their analysis that shows the spectrum, highest PAR rating in this class, UV and intensity. They use the best mean well driver out there.

The only other high rating is the Kessil's 350 & 360, with dimable drivers, the 360 is apex ready, like the ORPHEK, but the cost of the Kessil is much higher. One day, l'll get the Programable Kessil 360we !

Search the web or watch several videos on youtube where the industry leaders review ORPHEK's lights. Very impressive results !

I did try the "Live" black sand. 20lbs. apx 1"-1.5" deep. It cycled in three days.

I've researched Dr. Tim and heard many,...good things about him and his products, so I just tried Dr. Tim's "One and Only" and his "Ammonia", to start my wife's 29gallon tank. Per the instructions, I added both bacteria's yesterday morning and just tested the results a few hours ago. (You're suppose to wait 24hrs to test).

Here are my results using API test kits.

Ammonia- 0.10 (not yellow, but a light green)
Nitrite- 5.0 (at least, if not more. Dark purple)
Not necessary to test Nitrate, pH ect.

Update-

Tested yesterday.

Ammonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- After a 10g water change- 25 ppm.

I'll do another water change tomorrow and see what the nitrate is before adding a fish. Would like it to be around 15 ppm or less to still feed the bacteria.

It's going very well so far & couldn't be happier.

Well, we just had a disaster,.... with our Oceanic BioCube. A lot of the silicone around the bottom started leaking the last two days, then it became worse today. We took out all the new rock, live sand and a fish that got done cycling last week and found that the bottom glass was cracked. Was surprised it did not exploded. It could have been worse as we only have a few corals and one fish. I don't know why it happened, it's had water in it for two months now.
The stand was level.

Now were looing at a new cube and don't have much to spend on one, but right now Dr. Foster and Smith has the Coralife 29g on sale for. $194, shipped.

Like the broken one, I will not use the hood as were using our Kessil 150w Sky Blue, our Cadlights nano skimmer and the Media Basket media and fuge towers.

I like the rimless, "all in one" setups like on Ebay from a guy that makes all kinds of tanks, frag tanks, sumps etc.... Glass Holes and others, but their a lot more expensive !

So my question is, what's the differences between the two ?

From what I can tell the Oceanic and Coralife Biocube are very similar except for the Oceanic Biocube HQI which is a lot different.

Unfortunately the Coralife Biocube 29g is no longer on sale at Drs. Foster and Smith. I had planned on buying one but will have to wait now. :-(

I did finally get a hold of Coralife today, and she said the hood and lighting are different and will not interchange with each other. The bio-chambers I guess are the same.
You should try Dr. Foster and Smith, as I almost bought one today for $194 shipped, but I found a place called, "Aquarium Part .com" (no s on part) and bought just a tank, no hood or lights for $109.00 shipped. I was so,....happy !

http://www.aquariumpart.com/default.asp

Heck, they charge $199.95, JUST FOR THE HOOD & LIGHTS ! :nono:
Might as well buy a brand new complete setup !!!!

Check this link for the system at Dr. Foster & Smith. It looks good to me. For only $194 & free shipping, I should by another. lol

Let me know what happens.

Clean out your cache/cookies. I believe you are looking at old information as the sale price is gone. Back to $259 got 29g. I'll just wait for the sale again as I'm still researching as this will be my first saltwater tank. Drs. Foster and Smith has the best price on the Coralife Biocube and stand.

Things are going well. We bought a good sized Carpet Anemone at a LFS for $100. It won't be staying in her tank, it's for a dedicated anemone tank in the near future. She also added a condy anemone, she just couldn't resist ! lol
We also added a couple of stonies.

The two clowns are great, but they sure don't eat much, and don't know why ?
We've tried flake and good frozen foods but they'll eat just a few nibbles, and that's it.

Her tank is slowly,....coming along.

She now has-

2- Fancy clowns that have paired up as each others lobster.
1- yellow Wrasse (Chiquita,....banana boy)

The front bottom and climbing up the sides, was going to be many types and colors of her loved mushrooms !
but the dang Carpet Anemone (Mr. Berber) is taking up too much room ! When he's fully extended he's over 1.5'.
But, hopefully soon, we'll start up the forty breeder as the Anemone tank, which he will go to.

The new and gorgeous,.... "Colorado Sunset" bubble tip will stay in this tank.

Several corals, snails crabs etc...

We're excited to receive her new & stronger light tomorrow, the new Reef Radiance 165pm which has the full dawn to dusk programing !

I need to learn how to take better quality photo's !

We got the new Reef Radiance DP-165p light, and all the corals are popping !
I only have the whites at 35% and blues at 40%, and will slowly go up to 50% in thirty days or so.

The Clown pair (Jack & Jill) LOVE their bubble tip anemone !
So fun to watch them feed and bask in the soft and swaying tentacles. Took them less than 4 hrs to get used to the sting.
