Aka Chips Acro aka Silver Bullet.

Two names I've seen it called by.

Yeah the way it grows and the color is not like those two at all. It is just a random pickup I got at the lfs a few years ago. After googling borealis it really doesn't look like it either.

I mean the chips is blue and I would of had to buy it from ora to be a chips..... this coral is pretty much brownish purple with really bright green tips. Reminds me of the candlelight acro in color and growth. I don't know that much about acro species though.

After looking at all of the pics I agree it is definitely the same species as acropora borealis. Acropora borealis is not the species name but a trade name for a specific acro colony aquacultured by ORA. Unfortunately ORA borealis species is unknown as far as I can find so I can't give your a species ID but someone else probably can.

Acropora species is IDed by structure, not color. Trade name is a frag of a particular colony of a particular species, though there may be look alikes if it isn't from the colony it does not carry the same trade name.

If you are looking for a trade name, ask the person you got it from...if they dont know then it probably does not have a trade name. If you falsely put a trade name on the coral then you are false advertising.

I had a chips, in my tank it was the same color as this, with purple/blue tips, in the Lfs that had it, the thing was almost white with blue tips. Only difference was lighting period. I could be wrong though, never really know.

I agree 110%. Thank you so much for posting this before I could.

Even if it did look like ORA's Borealis it would not be proper to name it that. Especially with a tiny frag, it could grow out to be something completely different. You are only hurting yourself (or i should say the coral) if you take care of it assuming it is Borealis.

Now the original owner's colony, Nova65ss is easier to ID and I would agree for now that it resembles Acropora aculeus. So IMO the most proper Identification would be to call it "Nova65ss's Acropora cf. aculeus" You two can think of something snappier, but when it comes down to it that is a sweet coral and the name doesn't mean jack if it is falsified.

ORA choose the name Belina because the Acro they sell has the same color scheme as the Orchid variant Phalaenopsis bellina. Both the OPs coral and ORAs Belinia Acro are fuzzy, but nothing else is the same(not sure if you are trying to say that is what this Acro's ID is). So if you were to buy an Acro that looked like this and someone was calling it Belina, you would be buying a very poorly done impostor. ORA Bellina | Acropora sp. | Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums Oceans, Reefs & Aquariums

On the subject of Orchids I wish there was a clearer understanding about lineage like there is in the Orchid hobby. Which just like our hobby Orchids are traded and priced based on their lineage which is distinguished by a show name. I feel ORA corals deserve that as well. IMO if it is not know to come from ORA Farms then the coral or fish should not be given one of ORAs signature names.

If you are looking for a real ORA Belina then look for the ones on the Black spike plugs. You're relativity close to ORA Should be easy to find a real one.
