I’m trying out a very tiny pico tank! After a long hiatus from reefing I am doing the smallest tank I could find: 0.3 gallons (that’s the total volume including the sump).

Here it is (with my hand for scale)

Just need to add inhabitants, which will be:

1 snail (or maybe a few super tiny dwarf snails)
1 piece of live rock with mushrooms on it. Maybe some tiny pieces of live rock in the sump too.
Eventually, 1 sps frag
That’s it!

I’ve never had a tank smaller than 5 gallons, nor have I ever had a fish less setup, so we will see how it goes. The one thing I’m not sure about is how much to feed a single snail without polluting the tiny tank… would love input from pico owners on how you do it!

Stay tuned for more updates! IMG_6689.jpeg

I hear those are extremely difficult to maintain as every single drop of water matters in setups like this. I hope all goes well!

We have the same tank except ours is black! We love ours!

Is anyone even keeping these long term? I feel like it's so small I would forget about it's existence.

I've seen a couple on the internet go a year. But they need a lot of careful and frequent maintenance to keep it alive. Most of these do not last long though :(

I had a Mini Complete (same concept, earlier version) that I kept going for several months, but when the pump failed I couldn't get another pump that worked for it, though I tried a couple others. The light on max setting (it's only setting after I'd had fun with it) worked really well as the light for a 3 gallon tank for over a year after. Might have taken a few too many saltwater baths though to live too long

Just to provide an update, I learned very soon after making this thread that I was pregnant (surprise!), and the thought of starting a new a tank during that was NOT happening, so I never ended up setting it up. Looks like I can't delete this thread, but thought I'd provide the update in case anyone sees this in a search.

Now that baby is almost a year, I'm starting a new tank, but not a pico :)
