Hi everyone,
I got my water tested at my LFS for my 20g IM peninsula and need some advice...
2 days ago I left my wavemaker off (power head still on) while I went to work and I come home and my small frag of red planet looks like it lost a lot of color and no polyp extension. I thought it’s just because of the reduced flow (red planet is in direct path of wavemaker) and turn the wavemaker back on.
As of today it still looks bad so I bring in my water to get tested and I have an ammonia reading of 0.7 and and alk reading of 6.2dkh.... my tank has been up for a year and I dose kalk via ATO which has kept my alk pretty steady around 7 for a long time now (use Tropic Marin Pro salt). Everything else in the tank looks like it normally does! I do weekly 5 gallon water changes and keep up with everything pretty well, I don’t think anything has died... but maybe something? Would a turbo snail or sexy shrimp dying be enough to raise my ammonia that high? Currently mixing water for a 5 gallon change.
As far as the alkalinity I’m at a loss... I’m wondering if I didn’t mix the kalkwasser well enough when I filled it up last resulting in my ATO basically topping off with fresh water? I haven’t cleaned out my ATO in a while could precipitated kalk at the bottom of the container cause any issues?
Any advice here really appreciated.
