That's Gen 2, make sure it's the same generation as your lights, otherwise it won't work. As Tim says, it's not necessary for it to function, only if you're not comfortable configuring the lights using their own buttons.

Funny, I had one most of my first 16 years of reefing and all of this go around. I was shocked when I found R2R and a lot of people were dumping on them for their aggression. Mine have all been model citizens with the exception my sexy shrimp became expensive sideline food.

Ive noticed that you've had good luck with critters that can be trouble. Peppermint shrimp, emerald crabs, sixline etc...

In other news, when I installed the Meridian Edges I left them in manual mode but went ahead and put them on WiFi and loaded up a schedule. This morning I pushed the little toggle button twice like they tell you in the directions (directions are handy--I'm talking to you Maxspect--great pumps but garbage info--20-30 second wordless videos are junk) and voila app controlled. Very nice.
