Throwing this out there for y'all...
We've all been told hundreds of times API tests are no bueno.
Now, I've used these tests for my entire life and I admit they're hard to read, thus the reason I spent the money on Hanna testers.
As the price of the refill regents went up I decided to try an API nitrate test while running the biopellets.
Matching this to my Hanna as I went really helped decipher the colors, and,honestly, they were pretty close give or take.
The swamp really didn't care about nitrates.
About a week ago, all my algae was gone.
Vanished.
I have a little green on the rocks, that's it.
I got a new regent pack off Amazon, tested and I'm blinking 75, 3 times.
API shows nothing, 3 times.
These regent packets from Amazon were clumpy and not much came out.
Dated fine but clumpy.
Second time this has happened ordering from Amazon.
Never had this happen from premiumaquatics.
Check those packets...

I don't agree with the multitudes that API are bad. I've never gotten a bad reading from fresh reagents. I only have two issues with them. It can be very hard to figure out the colors correctly and some of them can be less precise than we normally require (phosphate).

I used api for freshwater but have gravitated to mostly Salifert tests. I use Fluval multipack for nitrite/nitrate

I use Hanna for Phosphate, pH, and Nitrate, AquaForest for Magnesium and Salifert for everything else. If I had a current API set I would use it for the pH, Ammonia, and Nitrite but I only check Ammonia and Nitrate on a new tank or if something goes sideways. I was gifted the pH so that's why I'm using the hanna for it.

Mr_knightley glad you are here! Just a group of people who enjoy each other’s company and enjoy helping and encouraging each other. Sometimes we make fun of each other, anything for entertainment. Don’t go back and read everything, just jump in and you will be welcomed.
