I started my tank back in September 2020 and it was my first time setting up a salt tank. I have owned a fresh tank for almost 10 years and thought why not try this reef thing? Probably one of the best decisions I have made!

My tank has been through a lot in these past couple of months but it is still going strong!

what happened to the clown? I have an identical setup almost. 10 gal with a HOB and clown and red firefish. I was contemplating adding a tiny 3rd fish but not sure about the bioload. My tank is about 2 months but registering almost 0 nitrates and about .1 phosphates somehow. What are your numbers like?

Clown was caught in the powerhead one morning :( my last parameter test is as follows:

Nitrate - 9 ppm
Phosphate - 0.1 ppm

I change about 10% of the water every four or five days. I also target feed at least once a week with Reef Roids and frozen mysis shrimp.

So one of my rocks in the tank was covered in green hair algae, aiptaisa, and some nuisance polyps. I went to my LFS and asked one of the employees about swapping out some live rock in my tank. He set me up with some nice live rock and I went home and just dropped it right into the display tank. I waited a week for the new rock and get some bacteria from my tank. Today I finally swapped out the nasty old live rock and aquascaped a new replacement structure made up of the new live rock. I am happy with the temporary set up but I will definitely be making some adjustments tomorrow. But as of now, here is what it is looking like:

Update! Removed the nasty live rock and added in some cleaner live rock. I also moved all the torches onto the frag rack to make some space for the RBTA. I got a Black Widow BTA today and it is currently acclimating. Very excited to add it into the breeder box to have it acclimate to the lighting and flow!
