Im planning on a 100liter nano sps dominant, here is the plan.

Tank: 24x15x18" LWH with back sump

Skimmer : Hydor slim skim nano

Light : DIY or my budget is 100$ max

Wavemaker: Coral box RN-1

Return pump: eheim 1000 via chiller

Chiller : Hailea 150a

Dp-5 dosing pump, will dose vinegar too.

Filter media : seachem carbon, seachem phosbond, seachem purigen. None in reactor.

Supplements: Aquaforest 1+2+3+
Polyp lab colours

Or
Seachem kalk with mag,
strontium and Reef Plus

Or
Seachem adv calcium with
reef builder and reef plus

Questions :

Is the skimmer good enough?

Im confused about supplementation.

Reef will be bare bottom, Sps dominated with mostly monti caps at the bottom sides and acros in the middle. A bonsai type. And maybe a few lps.

Can i keep a calm in bare bottom? Any ideas?

As for stocking, a pair of clown and an algae blenny and a six line with snails and some peppermint shrimps.

Plz help.

  • Yes, you can keep a clam in a bare bottom.
  • You'll likely need to spend more than $100 on lighting for an SPS tank. You can likely pick up a used metal halide or a use/cheaper T5, Either way, bulbs will push you over that budgeted amount.
  • Skimmer - I'll defer to someone who has run an all-in-one, but if you get one that isn't large enough for your bioload, you can always do WC's to make up for it.
  • Everyone has their opinion on dosing and what supplements to use. Find one you like that has it all-in-one. I like ATI Essentals Pro (2-part with all the trace elements included). There are other brands that do the same style though.
Hope this helps!

Oh and water movement.. You'll need more than one directional pump/powerhead to get SPS quality water movement. I utilize 4 powerheads and two returnpump lines to get the randomness I wanted for my corals. That is probably a little overboard but I would recommend at least two to start. As the corals grow, it will be harder and harder to get the proper water movement.

But won't that be overkill for a 100ltr?

Two pumps with random flow on each side of the tank is what I would do for sps.
What if i use a basic pump at the bottom to keep detritus off the bottom? And the RN1 or OW10 on pulse or random mode?

That could work. Always good to have flow across the bottom of a BB tank anyways. Obviously you will have to play with placement.

For sps the more flow the merrier, i ´ve a Jebao SOW4 in my 8 gallon tank mixed reef plus the return pump. Overkill? Not quite, 30/40 times per hour turnover...you can visit my build thread, there you can see how i adressed to dosing first, happy reefing!

The display area will be 80liters of water. Ow10 is 4000lph, thats more than 40times.

But it is one direction.

I have 4 but they are rarely on at the same time and definitely not at 100%.

Random flow is what you need. Impossible to do with 1 powrhead. Difficult with 2. Easier with 3 or more.
