Hi all, after a long hiatus from the forum and the eventual decline in updates for my nano tank build thread (I think it got deleted), I am back to present to all of you my 120 gallon with 35 gallon sump.

scored this great setup on Facebook for $300 and am very excited to get the ball rolling, I will be sending all equipment soon and searching for advice on what I should keep and what I should upgrade :) Happy to see this come along

I’m in love with the French Angel but if you guys believe there is a more suitable larger angel I am interested to hear, I currently work at a fish store and plan to for a while so it is very easy for me to rehome fish when the time comes. I have my heart set on a large Angel

I'm not the guy to ask about Angelfish. Have you thought of a yellow candy hogfish? Cuban's get big and mean.

Is this going to be a FOWLR or a reef tank?

Okay last cool thing... I ended up with a French, she’s gorgeous, the 120 should last her til I head off for school so she will most likely be moved into one of our lfs maintenance customer tanks if she ends up being above average

Last set of images I’m posting are going to be of the tank and how I went with my scape, I left larger caves for the larger fish and a pretty hollow rock mound in the back between the overflows for some of the smaller species, I’m pretty happy with it

Thought I’d give a rundown on equipment since it seems I haven’t

Currently running two koralia 1500gph in the display

some cruddy aquaneat LEDs on a ramp timer for the lighting (actually pretty nice)

jebao pump

and soon to be running an eshopps skimmer rated for 200 gallons, it’s currently being repaired cause the pump was busted, new one is coming soon.

There’s about 100 pounds of sand and around 150-200 pounds of rock... I also have 50 leftover so I may cram it in the sump... lol

Nice! Btw even though it’s FOWLR, you could try some soft corals I reckon. GSP, zoas, etc. I saw a video of someone with FOWLR and a ton of soft, invasive corals. Even when eaten the can regrow quickly

I was definitely considering that! would also provide some nice foods for the coral eaters

Updates:

Bleached filter socks today, they get nasty quick. The tank has begun to create skimmer foam with its current lack of a skimmer (which will be in on christmas eve). Tests are still showing great and it doesn't appear that I am at a point for my first official water change.

I need to feed a little more lightly until the skimmer is in, the french doesn't appear to be a huge nori fan but loves Ocean Nutrition/Hikari pellets soaked in Vita-Chem. Same with every frozen food I've offered.

Also just won a local auction for a Chalk bass, scored it for $20 and am going to be putting it in the tank, I figure I will add about 5 more fish total and potentially remove the green scat as he fights with everyone...

So far I have settled with adding...

Neon Goby

Chalk Bass

Princess Parrotfish

I would like to add an additional small fish and maybe a tang, have my eye on the Atlantic Blue...

Nice vid of the children eating ON formula one pellets with vita-chem/garlic guard. The burr fish already got his two meals today so he does not get to eat in this vid lol. He’s steadily fattening up which is making me very happy, once he’s off medicated food I definitely plan to broaden his diet and possibly grate custom foods
