I had jumped into the hobby about 15 years ago, life happened and I had to get out about 9 years ago. Fast forward to now. New house and a wide open basement as a blank slate and what better way to fill the basement than to have a nice display tank. I was surfing Facebook market place and came across an add for a 120 Gallon tinkles tank someone had for sale. Was in pristine shape because he never set it up. I jumped at the chance to get it and it started my journey back into the hobby. The tank was custom made, drilled for an overflow such as the eshops one. Came with the crate it was shipped still attached. Felt bad for the guy since I knew he paid a pretty penny for it. Made a deal with the wife, once I finish the basement I could set it up. This started my endless nights and weekends to get back into the hobby. Mind you I bought the tank over a year ago before being able to finish the basement. That’s dedication lol.

Overtime I started collecting pieces for my build, a few market place buys for rock and a box of Marco rocks all purchased about 5 months ago. Picked up RO/DI 7 stage system from Amazon. I am very handy so I cut in a tap in my water line and made a station for it as well. Picked up a 40 gal breeder from Petsmart during one of their $1 per gallon sales. All this time honing down what equipment I wanted to buy. Researching and asking other hobbyists.

I picked up the Fuji cube DIY sump kit which works great, love that you can set the compartments as needed for protein skimmer and fuge area. Then out off the blue, there was a market place add for Reefbreeder Photon 48 V2. I was eyeing this light up from the beginning. Guy bought it for his tank and it as not right fit. Still in box. Got it for almost half price and it was practically new. As I am collecting, I am finishing the basement. Now it is time to really ramp up my efforts for the tank. Hey at least my basement bar is done. That table will go and the display tank will go there

So I get a call from my cousin, “I’m done, when can you pick it up”. So I’m scrambling for buckets, happen to have plenty thanks to all the sparkling I had done. So I get this. What fun transporting everything and setting everything temporarily up.

I start working on my stand, custom built my me. I feel pretty impressed with myself. The sump fits perfectly from the back, all 2x4 and 2x6 construction. You are looking at about 1000 lbs of weight it has to hold.

Then the fun part, buying everything in my wish list, Carib Sea Fiji pink sand, Finn heart and controller, Corsl Box 500 skimmer, 2- wave maker, Jebao DC return pump with smart controller. Got everything in and the build goes into OT. Got stand and tank set, making water and mixing reef crystals in. Starting to come along.

Fun parts was plumbing everything up, I am a bit particular and anal on how things look so I took the time to make it look good. It’s filled up and circulating. Pour in Dr Tim’s one and only, get cycling started. Shortly there after you have this.

So I eventually want to get some type of controller but the only thing that is plug and play ready would be the return pump (already has a Soren controller DC) skimmer (also with controller) and heater. The wave makers are controlled with its controller (master slave set up). Lights can be converted but need a new program board (which available from Reefbreedder) but in time I think.
