Finally, I found a 120g for a used price $200.
She’s the ugliest most beautiful thing I have ever laid eyes on. I’m going to strip the two overflows, add a ghost overflow and oh so much more to get this one wet again. I decided to put my money towards reputable equipment, instead of the glass box. (Good timing considering frameless tanks are losing fashion, dang you Red Sea.)
My previous tank was a cadlight 60g and just a frameless beauty. That tank grew coral but limped by with basic equipment. (Lighting,Powerheads, manually dosing) Time to flourish and establish a low maintenance 120g for this reefer.

Yes, and the results of growth and death aren't pretty.

There is now a new way to frag scolys without deforming them. Doubt it will work for trachys
This method takes years to regain the natural shape doesn't it?

( Didn't read long enough to see you guys were talking about the bottom cut versus the rubber band,)

From what I know, cutting them in half or quarters, takes years. But, apparently the button cone cut is much quicker. There is a nice plus for scoly owners. Wonder if it works for trachy?

One of the reasons why I brought it up.

I would volunteer to buy a trachy and try it.
How much of the skeleton was cut for the scoly though?

That is the issue, there is a fine line. Too much, you injure said coral, too little, you wont expose enough to get a bloom.

My trachy is pretty much a pancake. I figured, would make a nice candidate.

They did mention if you cut too deep, you’ll have a hole appear. It will still heal(propagate) but take much longer they said.

When I originally read that article I think last week it seemed very interesting to me. The SU being is that nobody really knows how deep to cut. So do you start shallow and creep up on it?

I will need a scoly and practice. Probably a wet saw as well. A regular dremel may not be ideal.

For this sort of cut, personally I would Much prefer a Dremel. Every coral band saw I know if does not have a thrust bearing on either the rear of the blade or sandwich bearings.

The blade is not held tightly and approaching a cut at off 90@° the blade walks

Very valid points. I still need practice. Blastos need a flat rock to help encrusting. That was going to be my first target. Before I cut off into more lps.

I’d be happy to have either one of those tools in my arsenal hah. I’ve yet to buy a dremel for no good reason. But I have been looking at bandsaws.
Lost, on a scale of 1-10 how sketchy does this look?

Im giving it a solid 9 on the Sketcherton scale.

It's not Sketch per se.

It is exactly what it's supposed to be. A craft/hobby saw, not a coral saw, not a woodworking tool. It'll have trouble cutting wood at 1 in thick, Not enough tension on the blade, and absolutely not nearly enough motor. 2.5 Amps.... That's half a blender....
