I was given a 150 gallon tank. I’ve been planning on getting back into the game for some time but with a 90 gallon (I previously had a 55 about 10 years ago). I want to be strategic about stocking the tank. Would love some insight on what to stock our tank with. Want fish with personality but also not into overly aggressive ones. We also want soft corals.

Tank is 72x24x19

Fish we for sure want:
Clowns
Royal gramma
Schooling fish
A wrasse (any favorites?)
Tang (purple or yellow - can we have both? Also worried about qt in a small tank)
Flame angel

There really are not “schooling” fish other than chromis that pick eachother off or a harem of anthias. I think anthias are super pretty though!

You could do a purple and yellow, I would just add them small and together.

Theres lots of wrasses out there too!

I’m fairly new to saltwater hobby however I’ve been in the fish keeping hobby for many years now, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I also have a 6ft 135g. Very similar tank footprint as yours.

As for the two tangs and qt in a small tank. I recently have done a lot of research on tangs as I wanted to add some to my system. I ended up with a yellow, chocolate, and white tail. I wanted to qt them together so I got them all a similar size and made sure they were small (2”). I qt them all in a 20g long for 4 weeks with no real issues. Just did fairly constant water changes and they all made it to the main display. The white tail had some Hlle when I got him. It didn’t get better in qt but in a week in the main display there has been significant progress.

The rest of the stocking I have:
- 2 ocellaris clowns
- 4 chalk bass (they are somewhere between schooling and shoaling in my tank)
- 1 long nose hawkfish
- 1 yellow tang
- 1 chocolate tang
- 1 white tail bristletooth
- 1 foxface
- 1 female lyretail anthias (rest of the group didn’t make it past qt and haven’t got new ones yet)
- 1 yellow watchman goby
- 1 ruby dragonet
