Just received my 170 and I was looking at the exterior of the box while salivating.

It reads that the total volume is 43 gal., but that the tank volume is 54 gal and the sump is 9. Is my math wrong here or shouldn’t the total gallons be 63 according to these numbers?

It’s a typo, the tank volume should say 34 gallons on the box with the sump being 9 gallons, for a total of 43 gallons.

However, note that Red Sea uses imperial gallons, not US gallons. An imperial gallon is 1.2 US gallons. So the tank volume is actually around 40.8 US gallons. Plug the dimensions into a fish tank volume calculator accounting for the glass thickness to verify.
