Alright every one here I am to start my build thread. This will be my first tank. Alot of the equipment i have is wayyyyy over rated for a 20 long but the 100 gal I got. Well lets just say I jumped the gun and it wont fit in my basement. So I decided to go with a 20 long to get things going. Im using all the equipment that was intended for the 6 foot 100 gallon tank.

Equipment so far:

-Sump (not sure of brand will post pics)
-cones co-2 skimmer (wayyyyyy overkill)
-ehiem return pump
- modular marine over flow
-aqueon 150 watt heater
-reef keeper elite

Tank itself:

So the tank it self is an old 20 long with the fake wood trim (not the newer black trim). I painted the back black. And drilled for my modular marine over flow. I have small children and a long haired dog so i went ahead and got a solid glass top made. I have a single return I decided to only make my return 1\2" will this be something I regret?

The stand:

So im for the most part a diyer so with some 2x4 and plywood I built my stand. I used bathroom silicone inside the stand and caulked all the seems then painted the entire inside in white applience paint. I do not have the outside skined yet as im not sure what I want to do. (Ideas welcomed) Also I built this stand to eventually hold a 40 breeder.

The tank is curently cycling with about 25 pounds of dry special grade sand and 8 pounds of reef saver rock and 3 pounds of reef saver shelf. Im going to add more rock eventually but figured id get this rock rollin. I filled the system up let it run for a day to do a final leak test and then through in a table shrimp. Also used about an 1/8th of a bottle of bio spire. This was on 1-1-19.

My latest parameters are:

Ammonia-- 1ppm
Nitrite ------- .25ppm
Nitrate ------ 20ppm

Any advice or constructive critisim is welcome.

Will post pics later!

Pics to come later tonight but my latest parameters are:

Ammonia--1ppm
Nitrite. -- .5ppm
Nitrate. -- 30ppm

My ammonia has held strong at 1ppm but should i pull the shrimp and see how quickly that 1ppm disappears? My nitrates are starting to climb as well I have to to do a water change should I do a water change or run my skimmer or just not worry about the nitrates?

All right so ad stated alot has changed with this tank. I've learned a few lessons along the way.

1st. - I had the 20 long with a sump. I drilled it myself and this was my 1st attempt all was good! Fast forward to my 1st maintenance day (Not just water change). I was almost done sand was vaccumed glass was cleaned skimmer was torn apart and cleaned along with the wave maker and heater, last was my return pump. Well needless to say the lesson I learned was support your return and drain lines... as I messed with the return lines in order to disconnect my return pump I felt a pop... the pop I felt was the back glass off my tank breaking. Now I got lucky here as it cracked but never leaked one drop!

So I scrambled and drained the tank water into my 32 gallon brute can put all the rock and corals and fish into the can. Ran to petco to get a 40 breeder (perfect time for an upgrade right?).

So I've had the 40 up and running for about 1.5 months now. These are some pictures from today still always from done but it's a work in progress!

Looks good. You need to go and get a lottery ticket. No leak from a crack. If it happened to me it would drain all 20 and somehow drain 20 more:)
