Hi all, I am interested to hear of your plans in this crazy year for holidays.
Today we in the UK have been given a list of countries deemed safe to travel to. I had a holiday booked in August to the Algarve in Portugal which I have just had to cancel as its not in our Govs list. Fortunately I can get a refund on flights, but accomodation is non-refundable so we have had to extend the date until spring 2021 in the hope all this madness is over by then. My wife and I also intended on taking the 3 boys to the Scottish Highlands, but because of silly political shenanigans in Scotland (who are v anti-English) we have decided to skip that holiday too.
So in the end we have decided to focus on more local locations. I live just over an hour from the border between England/Scotland, so I have Northumberland to the North and Yorkshire to the South. That gives us a choice of loads of coastal Castles, Viking & Roman ruins inc Hadrians Wall, tonnes of beaches and nice little cottage towns.
I think a lot of people will decide to focus on more local destinations, which will mean the tourist revenue will dry up for places further afield, esp southern Europe which depend heavily on tourism, particularly from the UK. On the other hand this will be a boom for local businesses.
Is the same thought process happening In the US?
