Figured I’d go ahead and show my progress. My wife was tired of looking at freshwater and convinced me during a pandemic to convert it to saltwater.

This tank has now been running since October. I was originally using my canister filter, but two month’s in and it sprung a leak so I started working on a diy 10 gallon sump. Since it was already running I got a hob overflow. The sump holds all the water if power is lost.

Started with these three cured rocks in September. This was not an attempt to scape. I had already planned on breaking them up with a hammer and chisel.

I love the long tanks. My other choice would be a 12 gallon long nano for the bedroom or a cube tank. I’m actually much further into this build and updating the thread with comments to each step. I now run a hob overflow.

Tank went through the cycle and for Black Friday I ordered my first few coral. They arrived in December and still doing great today! I’ve got a battle star galaxea, rainbow ricordea, and green stunner chalice.

Figuring out the why: Has your primary reason(s) for keeping a saltwater aquarium changed over time?
