Some years back, my tank crashed and I lost everything. I had a pretty decent sized Achilles tang that just went missing one day, I tried looking for it but was nowhere to be found.
I still remember those few horrible days well.
During a feeding, notice the Achilles tang was missing, looked for it but couldn’t not find.
I was afraid of the worst but went to bed that night and figured he would either come out In The morning or I would find him passed.
Neither happened, was like he vanished into thin air. That second day, I got an ammonia spike and knew exactly what had happened, he hid somewhere and had died. I moved rocks, moved sand around, as much as I could but nothing. It was like the Achilles just vanished.
To this day, have no idea exactly where the fish hid? At the time, I was pretty much devastated and had to turn everything off and walk away.
Which, I now very much regret.
Especially with how out of control all the prices are with supplies, Equipment, livestock, etc.
Luckily, I kept all the tank and equipment.
Fast forward some years later and it’s time for a reboot.
While I am excited to get the tank back up and running, the prices on some of this stuff is shocking.
Anyway, here we go with the reboot thread.
Some of the other old timers like rev will probably recognize some of my old school equipment, lol! Some of this stuff is very old school, but is still working well and kicking strong.
They just don’t make stuff like they used to.
I will also post some pics of my tank, when it was in its glory.
A few of the pieces I really miss, like my yellow tip elegance coral and black hole sun acans.
anyway, time for some pics :)

my tank in its current state, looks a bit like a desert wasteland but it will come back to life soon enough. The tank has been finished cycling for about a month now. Slowly starting to stock fish again.
Current have a pair of occellaris clowns, 3 lyretail anthias, and a pair of royal grammas.
I cycled the tank with fritz Zyme turbo start and to my shocking surprise, the tank cycled in 6 days. I had read the stuff works, I truly does.
I was pretty much shocked on that 6th day when I tested my ammonia and nitrites, 0.

Here are a few more pics of the rest of the equipment. It’s been a while since I was last on the forum and my email has since changed.
Have no idea what my old user name was?
I guess it’s a reboot in more than one way, lol!

my octo sro5000 with a new bubble blaster pump. Old pump wouldn’t come back from its rest, lol! Just didn’t want to spin and had to order a new pump.
This skimmer is an absolute beast!

The sump I had originally made out of a 40 gallon breeder is still holding up well, so sticking with it.

While i am at it, i might as well post a pic of the angel of death, lol!
This is the **** that crashed my tank. Ironically, I had named the fish Stevie-ray, turned out to be fitting.

My old school Tunze 6100
This is a prime example of how they just don’t make things like they used to.
These things are still going like the energizer bunny.

Have to post a pic of the infamous black hole sun, was a stunning piece. Miss this coral.
One of the things I am looking forward to is getting back into taking pics of my corals, i love photography and looking forward to taking more pics as i restock my tank.
I hope some of the local old timers are still in the hobby, I would love to get another piece of this stunner.

Incase anyone new stumbles across this thread, Fritz Zyme turbo start works very well.
My tank cycled in 6 days.
Let the tank sit for an additional week and added my pair of occellaris clowns. Tanks doing great.
I’m used to the old days when tanks took a good 4-6 weeks to cycle, sometimes longer.
it’s neat to see the advancements in the hobby.
I have had marine tanks since around the late 90’s, early 2000’s. A lot of progress since then.

I almost forgot to mention my light fixture.
It’s originally a current USA halide / T5 combo that I had upgraded over the years.
I swapped out the original electronic MH ballasts with M80 ballasts and run pheonix bulbs. Need M80 ballast for pheonix hqi bulbs.
Difference between the original electronic and m80 ballast with this bulb was very noticeable.
I currently have led strips retrofitted into the T5 sockets. Will just have to see how that goes as I start adding corals. If it doesn’t work out, will just put the T5’s back in. MH are currently off, I don’t normally run them at this time, will probably just leave the MH off until I start adding corals.

My frag tank / QT setup.
This is either a 40 or 50 gallon breeder, will have to measure it and figure it out.
Been too long and don’t remember, lol!
Lighting is T5 fixture with two slots having the retrofit led strips. Fixture has 6 - 39w T5 slots total. I think I am going to add some sand and live rock.
