However, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. To say they cannot transition is a very strong claim to make.
Likewise, claiming that they will transition is also a strong claim to make and one that i have seen no evidence for. You asked me to prove that they won't, but how can you expect to prove that something won't happen? Can anyone prove that the sun won't explode tomorrow? Proving a negative is always going to be very difficult. And keep in mind you originally made the claim and so the burden of proof is on you, not on me to prove that it won't happen.

If we apply Occam's Razor, the fish will stay female because as a protogynous hermaphrodite that is the default condition and in order for it to transition to male certain conditions must be met that clearly aren't met in home aquariums. I don't know exactly what they are but i would guess that space is a big factor.

I see a lot of people assume that all wrasses will transition to male eventually in captivity (this isn't even a guarantee in the wild) and it just isn't true and leads to a lot of misinformation, especially concerning larger species.

You could possibly be correct about size. I agree one in a 5 gallon probably will not transition, so there exists some tank volume where they start being able to transition. I am not going to argue with you about what this cutoff is, because it is pointless without evidence.

The males are very drab compared to the females in my opinion.

Ones opinion on what fish look good is subjective of course, but objectively speaking the males look fairly similar to the females.

That’s a very good photo. All the photos I’ve seen before make the males seem rather drab and just like a dark green fish. Maybe it’s the lighting or something. I’ve never seen one in person.

The females are definitely very vivid and the colors in real life match the photos.

Id be happy with either if those pictured above. Plus their behaviors are very interesting!
