Lifegard Pro-Max UV Sterilizer - 90 Watt

Picked up a used unit.
Frankenplumbed it in to get it up and running!

Primary concern is to improve water clarity. Secondary is parasite control.

Powered by a dedicated Vivosun 3000gph pump.

Me water testing:
"I should probably zap the tubing onto the pump spigot"

Zap straps are in the garage, I'm in the crawlspace, I'll do it later.

Continue to tinker around and of course I knock the tubing off. Instant regret.

lol.

Xmas eve 2024

Spent the day having fun doing xmas stuff and then a family dinner out.

Got home and water level in display is low. Return pump is off.

1000034209.jpg

400W aquatop heater crapped out and popped the fuse that runs the sump. It happened in the afternoon and we were out all day. Took a bunch of unplugging and plugging to find the culprit at 1am Xmas morning.

Thankfully, no losses!

Boxing day 2024
added a few fish: six line wrasse, lawnmower blenny and a stripey.

He likes to dart through the corals at the back of the tank.

Found a perch he likes midway in the tank.

This guy just cruises around. He's smaller than the blue chromis!

RIP Black bar chromis
Dec 29th
Found this guy on the bottom of the tank.
No idea what happened. One of the black bars had similar symptoms as my previous Copperband. Laboured breathing and inflammed gills. Maybe disease related.

1000034291.jpg

Circle of life. RIP. Always sucks.

New heater, nearly a disaster!

Got a 500W Hygger titanium heater to replace the burnt out aquatop.

Hooked it up last night via my Apex.
Set it to ON.

Randomly decided to look at the Apex this am and...

1000034693.jpg

Temp was nearly 81
I forgot the heaters are supposed to be on Auto! At that rate, I'm guessing the fish may have become dinner by dinner time!

Totally my fault, might have been a hobby ending failure. Lucky to have caught it in time.

Home made food

I feed a ton of frozen food so trying my hand at some home made food. For both fish nutrition by way or more variety of natural seafoods and to save my wallet.

Got a small pack of frozen seafood mix; squid, octopus, mussels and clams. Tried dicing it up with one of those late night infomercial slap-chop thingies, but ultimately ended up finely dicing things up by hand.

Froze it in a zip lock.

1000034635.jpg

The fish take to it pretty well. The bigger fish definitely like that some of it clumps up so they get bigger morsels in one bite. Only the CBB doesn't seem to get as much. Don't think this recipe will allow me to cut out mysis, for that reason. May try adding some fish meat to the mix, maybe mackarel.

Anthias woes...
Long time resident dispar found dead.
Male lyretail, jaw won't close.

Not sure what happened. I do have a plausible theory though. Out of all the anthias the male dispar is definitely the guy that will mix it up with eveyone. It's possible these 2 were fighting and the male lyretail walked away with a broken jaw. This is the same male that locked jaws while in observation and broke the pectoral fin of another.

RIP dispar, it continued on in the circle of life.
1000035041.jpg

Here's the male lyretail. Still eating or swallowing foods, just not with as much gusto as before. Still behaving normally otherwise, herding and chasing.

Disco time!

One of the hydra 52s is on party mode!

Turns out the power supply has called it a day.
Got this badboy shipped overnight from Bezos.

Split and on the move!

I had 2 rainbow BTAs homed on both sides of the back bottom rock structure. 1 decided to go for a stroll and moved under the back cave with no light. I figured, just a matter of time before it realizes that it's not a good spot. Well, it split and then both halves moved up and into the light. 1 guy moved right up top and is nestled next to a clove colony, so this guy gets to be rehomed.

I'm so good at DIY...

1000039186.jpg

Finally sprayed trims gloss black. Wasn't as simple of a task as I thought it would be.

Top trims are attached and cut to fit.
Bottom trims are not cut to finish as I'm still figuring out how to do the end and the other side.

For the end I'm planning on a shelf of some sort.

As for the 10' span on the otherside, still need to figure out what to do. I want to be able to access under the stand from that side. So I will either need to make doors or just se removal panels like the one semi-completed side.

Rambunctious eaters!

My routine is to thaw my frozen food in a small cup, then I dip the cup into the tank to disperse it by the output of a gyre.

The fish are such rambunctious eaters that they go into a frenzy when the cup hits the water.

So this tends to happen!... lol

They swim into the cup! Hahahahha

Vacation woes.

Got back from vacation last week.
Tank is a mess.
Tons of hair algae, manually removed as much as I could.
Had some water level/salinity issues.
Did a series of water changes over a few days. Probably about 150 gallons worth.

I had lost a couple of anthias prior to my trip and returned to have only 2 lyretails left. The one-eyed pirate and another female.

Rearranged a couple of rocks and moved a powerhead to try improve flow throughout the tank.

Will most likely pick up a few more anthias down the road.

So sorry about your vacation woes! I have definitely come back from vacation to my tank being a complete mess before

June 29th lost a chromis
I consider myself to have a good group of chromis. They have an established hierarchy, breed regularly, with a bit of bickering.

Today I lost one... floor surfing
