Nice! The back wall does not look bad, but a peninsula would be ideal if the room setting calls for it.

I agree if he was doing a peninsula style set-up then the side of the tank would be the best option. Otherwise I like the first illustration.
 
I love the idea of doing a peninsula tank. But I can't seem to find the right place in the house to do it. And in your situation it doesn't sound like it will be very practical either unfortunately.
 
Got the parts cut, glued and siliconed the unit in. Tomorrow night I'll test it out and the next morning I'll probably transfer some rock and livestock from the 135.
