I have been keeping fish for about 8 years and saltwater for 2.5. My other reef is a 10 gallon. I wanted to upgrade and go with a 40 because it worked with space, money, and maintenance for it. I’m 16 so even with me working, I won’t be able to stock it as fast as a might want to with corals because of the lack of funds. But I guess it makes it more of a journey.

I did not feel like doing a sump and wanted to go somewhat low tech so the filtration is sand, 40 lbs of dry rock, aquamax hob 1.5 skimmer, and a aquamax hob reactor.

Stock list/plans
2 clowns
Blue spot puffer
Coral beauty angel
Mystery Wrasse
Yellow head Jawfish
Possibly a blenny

I plant to mostly keep soft corals just because of the lack of maintenance they require but also have some lps. I am running 2 ai prime hd on it and 2 Jabao ow-25 I think they were called.

Hope you guys enjoy the journey with me

Nice setup! What are you running in the reactor? This is giving me ideas for my home office.. Was thinking about putting together a smaller cube w/ a sump, but this looks like a great idea and less fuss.

Right now just filter floss to make sure I can get all of the dust that was left over on the sand and rock but it is all gone now. Once I get more corals, I will run some gfo and rox carbon mixed. The lack of equipment as of right now is definitely nice and give the tank a clean look especially considering there is no sump. I just hope it can keep up with everything later on

I love the carnation corals. Just a little too involved the for what I’m looking for right now. Maybe someday though. Is that a dedicated nps tank?

Yesterday I added some corals from the other tank to the 40b. Added a meteor shower cyphastrea, hammer, and Rasta zoas. Zoas are still closed, cyphastrea is fine but last night the puffer to quite a few pecks at it:confused:. Hammer is doing questionable. Seems to have some recession at the stalk but it had that in the other tank too. However, the puffer did decide to take a nip at one of the small buds of the hammer today. Hopefully with more feeding I can keep him in his place. The original corals are doing great

A few things have been going on in the past few days with this tank. I added the mystery wrasse from his temporary 10 gallon to the 40. He is a shy fish but seems to be getting more and more comfortable with me. Also got a pearly jawfish. He his burrow under the main structure in the front but has not been out too much. Also added a rock flower from the other tank who is in a cave right now and some green star polyp. The Rasta zoas are all out now also. All of the corals are doing good even with the puffer’s occasional nip at them. I can also see the start of the diatom bloom coming. I will take pictures of the anemone and jawfish when they come out.

What camera did you use? My fish NEVER sit still.
I think it’s iPhone 8. I have a app that can somewhat correct the aquarium blues but I usually just turn up the whites for photos. It took a couple of tries to get the photos, especially to get one of the puffer displaying his tail
