UPDATE:
Long post warning its been a long time since I gave an update.

Tank was running well around the beginning of November I had added an Aquamaxx 1.5 hob skimmer that is running like a champ. Also added a second AI Prime HD, which helped with some corals i has reaching and eliminated some shadows i had. Had some birds nest and a few other sps growing well and tank was chugging along.

Fast forward to the beginning of this month when I returned after several months away for work, I come home to 90% of my coral dead and a major GHA outbreak. The only surviving corals are my BTA, 6-7 RFA, Dragon eye zoas, 2 hammers, 3 acans and my gsp on the back wall. All the fish were alive still. So I started testing water to see how bad things were....salinity was 1.039 ALK 14(hannah) phosphates .80(hannah). After testing my wife confessed that she had topped off the tank with saltwater not RODI. so that was the cause. I cant be mad because she had a lot going on with work a 6 yr old and a rental house with problems while I was gone. All I could do is move forward and be glad I didn't have anything to expensive in there that died.

So after consulting with some long time reefer friends/lfs I decided to buffer the water with RODI slowly. I set up my new BRS 75 GPD filter system and started making water. Over the next 2 weeks I removed my struggling acans to my buddies store to recover while I get Things back in line. So I slowly started taking about 1 liter of tank water and replacing it with RODI 4-5 times a day totaling about a gallon a day. Fast forward to the beginning of this week parameters are a lot better, salinity 1.027 ALK 6.5 phosphate 0.18 PH 7.9 nitrate 5.

Yesterday I did a 5 gallon water change to help get ALK back up. I know I didn't test cal or mag and thats because I will be doing All-for-reef once corals are back in and adjusting my dosing for that.

Hopefully sometime next week I can get corals back into the tank and slowly making this a reef again. Sorry for the long post but like I said alot happened and I haven't felt like updating until now.

Update:
I received my MP10 from brs finally and got a second one from a local store to replace my ice cap 1k. The reason I went with 2 mp10s is I was unable to run my gyre at more than 40% without creating a sandstorm. Now I am running both mp10s on reefcrest at 55% and corals seem to be doing good.

As for corals i have started bringing some corals back from my friends store. Mostly cheaper testers so far to see how things do. So far I have 1 birds nest,1 acan, 2 chalice, 1 favia, 2 hammers, rock flowers, and bta. As long as these continue to react well and stay healthy ill bring more back next week.

Finally set up my kamoer x1 pump to dose all for reef. Starting out with 6ml daily. This is about half what is recommended but not entirely sure my consumption so I'm gonna take it slow and test every other day and adjust as needed.

Also brought home the rest of my corals from my buddies tank and they are doing great.

Got some new corals today. One of my local stores is moving to a new location soon and doesn't want to move everything. Scored 2 birdsnest frags, 1 goni, 1 acan, 1 favia, 1 mushroom, and a chalice for $70. Pictures aren't great but rushed to get to work and didn't have a chance to let them settle before pictures. I'll post more tomorrow.

Well after fighting nitrates (50+ verified at 2 LFS and multiple home test) i came to the conclusion that I had to many fish and the back chambers were another problem. I decided to do a restart. I took all the rock out which was covered in gha and filled with gunk. Took all the old sand out and started over. 25 lbs of live rock from a LFS and 10 lbs of new sand for the new scape that will be dedicated to lps only (minus the purple monti cap I got from a friend) I also got rid of 4 fish which were the fairy wrasse, both cardinals, and royal garama. Current stocking is 2 clowns, 6 line, stripe blenny, and a yellow watchman.
Most of my coral spent few days in my nem tank to hold them over for the tank to settle a bit. The back chambers which housed 15-20 marine pure balls were full of silt and detritus which im fairly certain didn't help my nitrate problem. I removed all the media baskets and media and replaced them with a bag of carbon and a bag of ceramic rings which I can easily pull out and rinse off once or twice a month. I am still using tropic marin all-for-reef at 3 ml per day but I did swap salt to brightwell neo marine because I got a good deal on it at a lfs.

The tank has been back up and running for 3 ish weeks now all corals are back in and re adjusting. A couple lost some color but look to be getting it back. Current coral stock is 4 head indo gold torch, 2 head indo green torch, 4 head green/purple hammer, 2 head gold hammer, 5 acans, green goni, 2 chalice, 2 cyphastrias, and 2 favias. They cyphastria will be going on the back wall.

Anyway here are some pictures. I'll get more when I find my lenses.

Did some water testing yesterday and the numbers are looking great almost 2 months post reboot.
ALK 8.5
Salinity 1.026
PO4 .15
Nitrate 3
PH 8.2

Have been feeding all the corals by hand once a week for 3 weeks now with a mix of benereef, phytofeast, and brightwell coral aminos. Color is looking awesome and things look happy.

I have this tank as well. The skimmer was trash. I just bought the IceCap K1 nano. LFS has this running on a JBJ tank that is about 40 gallons. It produces nice skimmate

Did the ice cap for in the second chamber like the original skimmer? Trying to find something for that chamber

Things are still doing well picked up a couple new pieces I'll try to get pictures of over the weekend. Finally found an aussie gold torch that I have wanted for a long time ago a week or two ago.

It did fid but barely... instead of magentizing the bracket to the tank i had to move it all the way to the top of the skimmer and rest it on the ledge of the tank. Worked great though
