So this is going to be my second reef tank(already have a 75 gallon that I will post pictures of at the end) I have been looking for a second cube tank for a couple months and found a great deal from a local reefer. We had settled on a price and the plan was going to meet this afternoon when the seller by accident CRACKED the front piece of the starfire glass. After finding this out I still decided to purchase everything because of the great deal I couldn’t pass up. I am planning on actually replacing the front glass myself once I can find a good reputable dealer for glass. This all happened today so it would be great to get some advice on the tank and hopefully replacing the glass!

So the included pieces that I bought today were...
45 gallon custom starfire glass tank
White stand
AI hydra 26 hd leds
HMS single arm AI hydra 26 mounting kit
IceCap ATO
Reef Octopus classic 110-INT protein skimmer
15 gallon sump
Aqueon 150w heater(planning on replacing)
Return pump
All the pipes and hoses needed

As you can clearly see the Starfire glass was cracked

As you can tell it has been used but still in great condition!

Sump fits snug at the bottom the the stand

So this is where I am at now and it’s time to find someone who can sell me a custom piece of glass and replace it.
Keep reefn’

If we can’t get location info to help find the glass and wonder the same thing lol.
I know a few places with the glass he is looking for across our great nation but it without a general location I can’t help.

Just ordered the custom new piece of starphire low iron glass! Should be ready by next Monday. Any advice on what would be the best sealant to purchase?

What’s up fellow Reefers! Just wanted to give you guys an update. I replaced the glass about 3 weeks ago myself and since then have been cycling the tank! I added 40 pounds of live Fiji sand and also added a 55 pound custom aquascape!

Also if anyone knows what the two hoses are that are coming off the return hose are for that would be great. Just seems pointless

Let's see how this tank is going to be fixed!

What’s up fellow Reefers! Just wanted to give you guys an update. I replaced the glass about 3 weeks ago myself
.

You skipped a chapter in your story! ;) How did the glass swap go?? What silicone did you end up using? How did you do it? Sounds like a nightmare to me lol, did you take any pics of the process? Congrats on taking care if it!

A couple more pics of the hoses would help identify them. Where do they connect to the return line?

Glass swap absolutely sucked. The removing of the old silicone was super time demanding and seemed like it would take forever(only used razor blades). After that though I taped around the piece of glass aswell as the tank to make sure the silicone would have straight lines. But the absolute worst part was actually getting the silicone out of the tube(because my silicone gun barely worked... I know my fault) so it was literally trying to dry before I could get the Sealent all the way around and then I had to have my entire head in the cube while the fumes were super intense when adding extra in the inside corner. But to be honest I’d totally do it again because I absolutely love this tank and like one days worth of work is worth the enjoyment I’m going to have for the rest of my life. And yes I will post more pictures of these random hoses that come off the return hose

Well, I can see you just replaced the front glass piece without taking the whole thing apart; it was my idea that all the glass pieces had to be taken apart and cleaned off of the silicone. No leaks at all?
I have a couple of tanks that need the front piece replaced but I’ve also been procrastinating.

I just took off the old broken front pane and then tediously used a razer to remove every singe piece of silicone(took about 4 hours) and then attached the new one. No leaks what so ever and all my inhabitants are very happy! Keep reefin

Little update on the tank. Had a major algae bloom about a month ago and I am finally starting to get a control on it. Created a refugium about 6 days ago out of a space in my sump that previously just had live rock in. I Bought the 26w TaoTronics led and it grows Chaeto like weeds. I did have it on a 24 hour cycle which today I am going to 12 on 12 off so maybe that affected the growth rate. I also added a green bubble tip anemone with a purple foot about 2 weeks ago that’s doing great and added 2 frags of Zoas about 4 weeks ago that’s been growing great too. One of the anemones I added a month ago hasn’t been doing good since I bought it and you can see it in the picture. Possibly taking it out soon. Let me know what you guys think.
Keep reefin
