Howdy,

I just opened my shiny new 7 stage RO/DI unit from BRS. I'm ready to prime it and the instructions say to just run off the first few gallons as waste.

My question is since most of it will be carbon residue would it be best to run just the RO for a few gallons and THEN connect the DI and prime again or just connect them all and prime?

I would never run the unit connected to the RO membranes directly after replacing the carbon blocks. ALWAYS run it for a couple gallons disconnected and let the water discharge into a waste container. You will see the colour go from a black colour and then to clear. When it gets to the clear stage I left it run slightly more for good measure and then connect it to the RO membranes.

ok...I'm a little confused...do you mean the DI resin? Because that's what I was thinking....run it through the RO first and then the DI. And this unit is brand new....never had water through it.

No don't run it through your RO or your DI.

Let it run into a bucket before the RO membrane to clean the carbon first.

ok....sorry for sounding like an idiot....my setup has water from the intake that goes to a sediment filter, then a first carbon block and then a second carbon block and then on to 3 resin chambers. if I read what you type literally....i'm running a hose into a bucket. What part are you identifying as the RO?
