Well my friend gave me his tank because he was no longer interested.

- 90 gallon tank
- Amiracle filter
- Aqua clear aquatics protein skimmer
- aquanetics uv filter
- dumb basic light for now
- hang on the back overflow

So I bought a stand, put an extra couple coats of clear to help protect from any spills down the line. Then I put some plastic flooring on the base, on the inside, again to help protect the wood. Now I put the filter in the stand. Had to drop it in from the top because the doors weren't wide enough.

I will be going towards a fish with coral tank. I will have a 6 bulb T5 light within the next week or 2.

Lastly the tank was brown, fake wood look, so I painted it black to match the stand.

If you guys have any advice with these hang on the back filters, please let me know. I have never had these before.
I will also be getting a new bulb for the uv filter too.

Hopefully by next weekend I will have it running.

So this tank was running before it was given to me. I have the gravel in a 5 gallon bucket and some of the live rock in another 5 gallon bucket, other rock has dried out.

If I put this used stuff in the tank, once it is filled and running, will the tank still have to cycle or will this only help the cycle process??

I would pass on the used sand and "cook" the rock and start over. That way you have time to plan everything out and can start a tank with zero phosphates.

I am going to get tropic Marin Bio Active salt tomorrow and water to fill my tank.
And start the cycle. Finally!!

I got to borrow a Coral life power compact with 2 actinic 65 watt bulbs and 2 -10,000k 65 watt bulbs, until I get this 6 bulb T5. The light looks nice

So I am going to have 20 gallons from an established tank and a dirty filter sock to help the tank cycle. We will see how it goes from there

I am trying to "cook" this dead rock I have but the green/red algae is not coming off. I brush it and a lot goes away but there is still a color left behind.

Any help?

Well it has been going for 24 hrs just circulating.
The black pump and heater didn't have any fuzz on it yesterday...

Sounds like you'll have a pretty cool tank here. Can't wait to see the progression.

I have to ask... are you trying to cycle this tank with no sand or rock?
