Good Morning All,

This tank has been set up for two years and has been through most everything and is usually battling something. Diatoms, Cyanobacteria, Green Hair Algae, Byropsis and Aptasia. It has seen SPS, LPS, Softies and Anemone's. It has been through a massive die off of fish and coral. It has been through a lot. I just wanted to share my experiences and changes with everyone because it's what this forum is here for.

So to start off, the initial set up was as so:
75G Marineland Tank and stand. Bought during Petco's $1 a gallon sale. Drilled overflow and return myself.
Eshopps R100 3rd Gen Sump
Crystal 5g ATO reservoir
Maxspect Razor R420R
Reefkeeper Lite with 1 x PC4 with Temp and PH probe
Cant remember the return pump make and model
Jaboa RW-8 Wavemakers x 2 Both of those failed, bought one new that's been running for a year and just added a hydor koralia evolution (600GPH) power head
Skimz SN143 Monzter protein skimmer
Finnex Deluxe Titanium heater
Smart micro ATO
Phoshban Reactor running BRS GFO and Carbon

Here is the initial Set up

I loved the first rockscape we made. The problem i found with it was that it created lots of dark spots and it was very hard to mount any frags or colonies to anything. But i tried working with it for as long as i could. The next thing on the list was adding fish and clean up crews. I wont bore you with the clean up crew.
Fish:
2 x clowns
2 x Chromis
1 x Melanurus Wrasse
1 x Green File Fish (my wifes favorite)
1 x Bristle tooth tang

Now on to more pics.

At about a year i had a large cyano breakout and decided to treat the tank with Chemiclean. So i followed the directions but ended up on the second day having to go out of town on the second day. I ended up being back a day later than the treatment was supposed to last and followed to the directions of turning the protein skimmer back on and during a large water change. Well, I woke up the next morning and all but one fish(Green file fish) had died. and all my SPS had RTN'd. It was a sad day to say the least. So if anyone reads this and decides to use Chemiclean to rid your tank of red cyano, follow the directions to the T. There was nothing I could do except pick myself up off the floor (my wife says I was in the fetal position, sucking on my thumb) and start over. After the the great plague, i started getting really bad hair algae and tried doing large water changes consistently but to no avail. I was also running GFO at the time and still couldn't beat it. So i did some research and ended up using Fluconazole with great success. It did take two batches, but it worked. My tank was hair algae free!

A month after the great plague, i started adding fish again. I added two new clowns, two new chromis, a longnose butterfly fish, and a pink spotted watchman Goby named Obi-Wan Kegobi. Around this time my green toadstool stated dropping babies like crazy and it soon got out of hand.

During Sept of 2018 i decided it was time for a change and changed my rockscape, I ended up with the following:

At this point after trying SPS, LPS and softies, i've decided to try creating a mixed reef that is more softie/Zoa dominated. Hopefully i can get this thing headed in a direction that will inspire awe in my fellow reefers. I appreciate everyone taking the time to read my thread and if you have questions, dont be afraid to ask. Thank you!

dang sorry to hear the lost, I have done chemiclean 3 times and yeah instructions have to be follow to the T!!!, in case you need to do it again on my 75g DT-30g sump I add enough to treat for 70g just to be on the safe side, another pointer is the antibiotic depletes your tank from oxygen so I remove the collection cup from the skimmer turn and turn it so that it could spill back into the sump for some extra oxygen since I don’t have an air stone to oxygenate the water as they recommend and move pumps closer to the water leve to aggitate the surface even more. Under dosing takes longer for cyano to die 3-5 days but rather safe than sorry. I also place filter floss on the last baffle in my sump before the return to catch as much dead bacteria as I can.

But your tank is looking great! Nice bounce back!

Well, I started dosing NOPOX a couple of weeks ago and my Nitrates were at 25ppm. I started dosing a third of what red sea recommended as a way of being safe. It brought my nitrates down to 10 ppm in a week. I thought oh, good, it's working. Well after another week my nitrates went back up to 25ppm. I've started dosing twice what I was in hopes that it will take care of the nitrate issues. I'm trying to get down to the 2-5ppm to help keep the zoa's growing. I had started feeding more in to try and counter act the fast stripping of nitrates and phosphates from the water. I will continue to feed. Any one else feed Elive Frozen Spirulina Brine Shimp from petco?

Well, Good news. I got my Nitrates down to 5ppm. I upped my dose of NOPOX to 6ml a day and after 5 days it bought it back down to 5ppm which is where I would really like to stay. I'm wondering if I will have to continue to dose everyday or if i can dose every other day, maybe lower the amount. I'll continue to feed as much as i have been and see where it takes me.

ON another good note, I have added a bubble magus BM-T11 dosing pump to help keep my ALK, CAL stable and to also dose my NOPOX. I'm super excited about this piece of equipment as i've always wanted to add one of these but felt they were a little out of my price range. Luckily I had a member that was interested in trading for one my deepwater toadstool frags. Hopefully this helps in the long run.

Picked up a few frags from a local and I’m super excited that I also picked up a couple of items from octo aquatics that I’m super stoked about.

SO, with the edition of the 2 T5HO Sunblaster units i wanted to get par numbers together to see where my tank was currently sitting. My Zoa growth wasn't great and it looked as if a few were actually getting blasted with light while using my hydra's so i turned them down and added the T5's to get a mixture of growth and color. Here are the PAR numbers I recorded with my Seneye meter.

T5 only mounted about 9" above water level.

And with both my Hydras running and T5's.
