I recently purchased a blue hippo tang. I understand the act weird after being introduced into the tank. It then devolved 2 markings on it. Nothing on the other fish and it loves to eat. These (2) spots haven’t changed sense the weekend

I agree I can’t tell much from the pics, unfortunately. A scrape is likely but if the fish was not quarantined it’s almost certainly also afflicted by ich or velvet.

I will post the pics tonight when I get home, but I do know for a fact this fish did come out of a copperd tank. I don’t know if that would matter. But my two clowns and eel have not shown signs of any distress of this nature and look very healthy. I also do see the tang going to the cleaner when those marks first appeared.

^^^+1. I am a huge fan of tangs and recently started the hobby. The first three tangs I got were great. Tried my luck with a powder brown and now my tank sits disheveled and fallow, 3 deaths later I am still trying get a handle on it in my qt tank. You may be lucky and have one that is strong enough to fight infections, but almost certain at some point it will show its ugly nose. I'd recommend treating him to ensure no ich, velvet, or watch for hlle. I wish you the best and hope it's just a superficial scratch. But keep a very close eye on it

I do hope it’s just a scratch as to tearing down the rock work to catch all the fish to transplant into the qt. Thanks for the luck!

I would keep an eye on him for sure! In pics it looks like he is really close to your nem. That could also be stinging him causing the marks.

Yeah I’ve got 5 in the tank actually looking to get rid of a couple just want to make sure this isn’t an issue and possibly infect some1 else. Today the mark had not gotten any bigger on top I haven’t noticed any scratching and he ate for me today and last night before I went to bed. Talk about a pig!

Now I'm looking at these on my laptop. Were all of these pictures taken at the same time? Quite a bit of difference in the lighter colored areas, now that I'm not looking on my phone. I know these fish like to wedge in between rocks to hide or sleep. @4FordFamily, @Humblefish

It does look like a scrape - as much as it looks like anything - to me. Keep a sharp watch, as such things can offer a pathway for bacterial infections to develop.

Glad to hear he's eating, as he seems a bit thin to me.

I do see what appears to be a scrape, but I also am curious how long it’s had a big ball above it’s stomach area? Has that been slowly worsening? Wondering if something else might be going on internally, also. That’s not typically where a nori-fat tang puts her extra weight.

Edit: Upon further examination it’s tough for me to make that call. Does this tang eat nori regularly?

I have not fed the tang nori, reason why I bought the fish my kid wanted it. I YouTube a bunch of care videos on tangs and hippos. I saw a brs episode of feeding the tang, and the guy recommended a seaweed pellet by hikari as I feed him that and he eats the brine shrimp and mysis shrimp I feed the clowns too.

I did notice he was thin, as I feed him multiple times a day. And yes I did take the pictures all at once, but pictures taken 2 different times from the first post to 2nd post
