I have always liked pulsing Xenia, and I just had the thought to make a jar with just pulsing Xenia and a rock. That’s pretty much all I plan for it. Do I need other stuff? I plan to make it pretty sealed up with minimal dosing and stuff. Maybe a shrimp or 2 though, but I have no idea what kind I would put, preferably the saltwater equivalent of opae ula, if that exists. Has this been done? Planned jar is 3 gallons I’d this makes a difference

Have you looked into PNW micro tank? It has the flow and mini sump and light. Provably would work better for keeping corals since those like a fair amount of flow

I have never seen those guys, although getting a 15$ pump for water flow might do the trick for flow as well.

This is the micro tank I was talking about. Its by PNW. Im cycling it now to take to work with me. Im sure your jar with the pump and stuff might work, just thought this might be an easier set up to work with!

Quick question: are you or anyone else heating these little tanks, or are they just running at room temp, like some jar setups? Thank you for your help!

I have mine at room temp. But I dont have anything in there but some dying zoas I was trying to revive. They wont open. But the water temp feels fine when I put my finger in it just now to see what it was at. To be honest Im not even sure a heater is small enough for this tiny thing! My plan is some RFAs and sexy shrimp

Thank you for your reply! Very cool tank for sure!

Yeah! Ill post on how it goes. Im only just doing basics to cycle it and maybe help the zoas but I think they are goners :( when I get done with police academy Ill be moving it to my desk at my office and getting the RFAs and shrimps going. Maybe before then at home but I probably wont have time to monitor them closely like when Im back in the office. Its a cute little tank. Thought about keeping some dwarf seahorses but decided not to, I feel like that would be challenging in an office tank and not sure the size is right cause I cant scape it for them. They do have a “small in one” they just came out with thats 5 gallons. That would be better for a super tiny fish and or the dwarf seahorses

I've seen this little tank before, but I believe I caught your thread previously asking about livestock for this tank. Neat thing, in my opinion, is that it's SO small that if it's your work tank, and you need to take a vacation, you could easily pack it up and bring it back home. I'll be watching to see what you do with yours. Good luck!

Yeah thats where I decided really the only option was some of the sexy shrimp and some rock flowers for them to sit on. They advertise some small tiny gobies that can go in there but I feel like its so small for a goby after seeing it in person. Videos make it look like its a good fit but I was not convinced seeing the size in person!

I feel like it's too small for a goby, maybe the little Tiger goby that TBS sells on their site, but I think the RFA's and Sexies would be a nice little tank :) Definitely a cool project!

Me too! They just sit and shake their butts around lol.

I'll be following along with your build for this tank :)
Wont be until May when I actually move it to the office and start it up!

No worries! You are talking to the undisputed KING of slow builds, by the way :)

Lol

OP should do a build thread on the jar if they go through with it! Bet it would be cool

Agreed! I'd love to see what they can do with a jar and some Xenia.

@TheClown sorry to be posting over your thread, but you do have a cool project in mind, and I think we'd all like to see it if you put it together. Good luck!

@Nano_Man the leader of the rock pool reefers group, he has a bunch of rock pool tanks that sound like what OP wants to do. Maybe he can help!

There is actually a cheaper one on amazon, can’t vouch for the quality. But it is WAY cheaper than the pnw one
