Okay, here's the story...
It seems that lately I have been in the mood to conduct a number of experiments. There are a few that I have always been interested in conducting, but have not previously been in a position to do so. Currently, I feel I am in such a position, and wish to proceed.
As you may or may not know, I am a mushroom collector. It's just my "thing." As you may also know (or not), there is/are a particlar strain/s of Discosoma that is/are frequently considered the Crowning Jewel/s of the Corallimorphs (although I personally feel that there are others that are serious "contenders" for that title). This/these critter/s have been variously named. Some of the assigned monikers have been as follows:
The Game Over mushroom (Rommell of Ultimate Frags)
The Jawbreaker mushroom (Mike of The Captive Reef)
The Tie-Dye mushroom (Zack of The Digital Fishroom)
The Acid Trip mushroom (Unknown Origin)
other names have also been established (edited by Drainbamage- language)
My understanding of the histories of these names is incomplete. Please let me know if you are aware of any inaccuracies here. Also, please avail me of any and all information you may have concerning the origin of these names and/or the critters themselves.
A few things I am interested in investigating are the effects of differences in feeding, lighting, current, water parameters, etcetera, on the growth and propagation patterns on these critters. I feel that these properties may be moderated (possibly mediated) by differences in pigmentation resulting from individual differences in DNA composition. As an ancillary consideration, these differences could potentially arise from there actually being more than one strain of the critters. There are likely other things I will consider as I proceed, and am open to suggestions for consideration.
Given my interests here, I am hoping to acquire a few of these critters. I have acquired a few of them previously, but do have some uncertainties concerning all of their true origins. As such, I certainly don't mind gathering a few more, if it will provide greater certainty about their origins.
So, if you have any of these critters lying around, I am more than interested in acquiring them. Please contact me about the possibility. There are only a couple of things that I require: You must be able to document who/where you got the critter from, or I must be able to contact the original seller to verify that it was acquired from them. If it came from a LFS, and the origin can not be determined, I may still be interested. The candidate must be securely attached to rock/rubble/plug. If you have cut the animal or its "mama," I would like to know this (With all due respect, despite the opinions of some very respectable keepers, these can be propagated by unnatural means. Trust me, they can. This can be documented, if you are seriously considering the possibility). It would not minimize its desirability to me at all, but is important to know. Although I am interested in acquiring more than 1 of these, I am not necessarily interested in acquiring more than 1 from the same person (unless there is a very good reason for doing so, such as dramatic differences in pigmentations, etcetera). I am not interested in purchasing a critter that "will be available soon." You should have some working knowledge of proper coral shipping techniques and etiquette.
Please do not post asking prices here. I don't want anyone to know how truly insane I really am. Further, I don't want my wife to be able to access that kind of information easily. :tongue:
Although DB has been gracious enough to cover the costs of some experiments which I am discussing on R2R, he will be granted reprieve this time. Unfortunately, there will be no FREE Chaca Chaca shrooms granted in association with this experiment.
All you will be offered in return is a handful of cash, and a NO-B.S. transaction. I will not promise to have the money in a couple of weeks, etcetera. Forward a picture, some required information (see above), and payment will be sent. Simple as that.
Oh, and I can promise that Macon will crap on your mushroom!:bigsmile:

This experiment will likely be proceeding for a few years, during which I will likely be considering candidates. I will not perpetually "bump" this thread. However (cough...cough), if anyone else (cough...cough) would like to...(cough...cough)...be my guest.
Please, do not reply by saying "YGPM." The arrival of a PM is far easier to detect than a post here (in fact, the computer almost self-combusts each time one arrives). Sorry, just a pet-peeve, and a hope for a better tomorrow.
Finally, if you have Corallimorphs available that you feel may be deserving of the aforementioned "title," or even close to it, feel free to forward your offering.
