For a complete novice in the field of generators, what stabilizer do you use and how (with details) please, we have the champion model, had to use it once 2 years ago. Thank you.
I add the correct amount of Stabil to the container of gas ( clear gas only), shake it a little and add to the generator. Start the generator and run it for 5 minutes or so and then shut off the gas valve ( most generators have one) and let the motor burn up the gas in the line and carburetor.
I replace the gas with clear gas in the fall and start it up, run it and then shut it off like I said.
Then if I don't use it by spring, I do the same all over again with new clear gas. But I've usually had to use my generator at least twice a year, sometimes more. I have gone full years without using it, but not often.
I've been doing this routine for almost 30 years in this same place. I started with a second hand 5000 watt unit for a couple years. Then to a 6500 watt generac for 24 years. About 4 years ago I upgraded to a 8750 watt Predator. The last 2 have been electric start.
