After moving to Connecticut from Miami and not being able to take my 72G bow front reeftank I decided to setup another tank 2 years and change later.

Found this locally for 50 bucks.
Needed all new fans, extensive disassembly and cleaning. Still worth it IMO. As of Sept. 18 2023

Tank was filled with 40lbs fiji pink and took about 28.5 gallons of salt water with no rock on Sept. 30 2023.

First base dry rock added Oct. 8 2023

Tank was tested and showed to have small amount of nitrates and no ammonia and nitrite. Cycle has completed. Oct. 18 2023.

Nov 12. 2023 picked up a pair of mated breeding clowns and about 15-20 lbs more live rock with some red bubble tip anenomes and mushrooms from an established tank in the area. The tank the rocks cane from had a bit of a hair algea issue. Cleaned the rocks up real good scrubbing about 95% of the green hair algea off.

Anenomes in the previous owners tank were a lighter tan color I believe did not have a strong enough light or not enough food. Slowly the rbta's are becoming a darker red color and some of the tentacles are starting to bubble like they should.

The tank seemed to cycle fast and with no bio load.
With all the live rock added and increased bio load here comes the algea! Nov. 14 2023.

Starting to get some cyano and a good amount of algea on the sand 12/2/23
20231204_100607.jpg

A heavy amount of pods and algea buildup on the glass pretty much every 2-3 days

Added 1 trochus snail, 1 turbo snail, and chemi-pure elite 6.5oz in the second chamber of the in tank media basket. Forgot the exact phosphate reading but was maybe double what it should be. No detectable nitrates per the LFS tests. 12/4/23

Haven't updated in a while, pulled all the rocks and did a manual removal of all vermatid snails.
Also re arranged a few of the rocks.
Added a valentini puffer as well and removed the hood of the aquarium to put a pop bloom RL90 light with an unreef lightshade 12/31/23

Was slacking on the cleanup crew and experiencing a bit of GHA growth. When I got the rocks from the established aquarium shortly after the tank cycled there was a bit of GHA growth on the rocks. I did my best to remove 90 - 95% of it, but it has made a bit of a comeback. I ran the new light on the reduce algae setting for a week or so and seemed to help but manual removal was needed. So, I pulled as much as a could off and removed and scrubbed the rocks inside the tank with a toothbrush. Then did a 10 gal. water change. Also added 10 Astea snails, 2 Mexican turbos, and 2 red leg hermits. Puffer has been good so far with the snails and hermits. The only thing I am dosing is B-Ionic Calcium System Buffer Calcium and Alkalinity and infrequently Reef Iodide. 2/2/24.
