I am thinking about buying a fairly substantial collection of acans, probably 10 different varieties to start. Do these guys need room to grow? The reason I ask is because I thought about buying a flat rock, say 6x6 or so, and gluing them down fairly close to make an "acan carpet" if you will.

Will they continue to grow and bud if they are right next to another acan? Do all acans get along?

Thanks,
J

Good question. I'd like to know too. I think they sting other corals, but do they sting each other?

They should get along, but will need room to grow... however, they do grow fairly slow. In my experience, they seem to produce new polyps quickly and use up every available space on the initial frag, but I've noticed that they don't exactly encrust or lay down new skeleton and spread very fast

I have a small acan corner in my tank, and left 2-3" in between each frag/small colony. I think I'm attempting to do what you're talking about, I don't necessarily want large colonies... just a waterfall or collection of a few different varieties in a common area.

That's kinda my goal TJ, I guess we will see how it works out. The rainbows I got from you are popping babies left and right, but they aer growing slowly.

I'm not sure I understand this perfectly. Are you saying that different kinds of acans will sting each other?

It is possable for ex the acan echinata is very aggressive and would not put it close to anything. Not saying they will but there is a chance

Echinatas will devour lords and any other coral that gets close enough to them.
Also if you have a battle between chalice and lords I've found the chalice always wins lol.
Acan lords are fine with acan lords though as others have said.
