I would never consider them friends that will never happen but they may tolerate even other and stay out of each other's way.

Much like you would never be friends with someone forced upon you to move in to your home and eat your food and be in your way - especially if you compete for all of the same resources.

Even people with the cognitive ability to get along would not in those circumstances 99/100 times. Same can be said for an animal capable of none of that thought.
