I put in the Paypal claim before requesting a refund directly since the guy is so flighty. Dairyreefer01 had begun being infrequent with messaging and left me hanging on Tuesday. Tuesday was the day I was supposed to get images for the second time, and also the day I was expecting the coral would be shipped. Messaged around 11am asking to have coral shipped to UPS hub and didn't hear from him all day. Seller messaged me about 5 minutes after I put in claim around 10:30pm saying he was swamped with the 9 other orders he filled and shipped. Nice he didn't put the effort in to get my order out the door.So did he deny you a refund? What about the rest of these frags that are potentially sold?
I also have a large order and we’ve been going back and forth about shipping. Was supposed to pickup this weekend but he had a schedule conflict so we’re on the books for. 9/17
Wow. Never thought this would be taken this far. Lets lay out the facts so that people arnt slandered.Just posting to share my experience with seller. I purchased a large group of corals and paid a $1,320 deposit to get the corals cut. Was told they would be cut and shipped in approximately a week. After three weeks, they still had not shipped. I repeatedly asked for pictures of the specific pieces I purchased and updates on shipping but was unable to get images or concrete ship date. The excuse for non-shipment was always about timing and not wanting to put the corals in danger of overnight shipping. It had to be same day cargo, and it had to be me willing to do a late-night pickup. I tried to work with this seller on multiple shipping options but ultimately had to request a refund and open a PayPal case. I'm posting this so potential buyers have the full context before sending money.
This is being framed very differently than what actually happened, so I'll address the points you've raised.Wow. Never thought this would be taken this far. Lets lay out the facts so that people arnt slandered.
You purchased 5 colonies from me, a handful of mini colonies, as well as frags. I made it very clear from the start this needed to be sent via cargo as that was the safest for the corals. It was very important to me that the corals make it there safely. I expressed to you that the corals would be in the bags for 6 hours vs 18 hrs. You gave me a very hard time about this and expressed that you preferred overnight and tried to explain to me that if they sat at the airport the would be fine. A chance I was not willing to take. Unfortuneately being a hobbyist I did not have a cargo account, I was able to get one, but that took time, about 7-10 days. Once I got the account I sent you multiple time slots that would work. After much back and forth we agreed on a slot. Before shipping we found out that the cargo hub at your location was closed during the arrival time we selected. So of course we could not ship and had to pick another slot.
You have made scheduling difficult and I have tried my best to bend over backwards to get these corals to you safely. I have expressed to you multiple times, I am 2.5 hours away from the tanks and am up there once or twice weekly while I am moving to Chicago. I am not up there everyday to take pictures (Which I did send you upon the first request, you asked for a second request) and I cannot cargo ship at the snap of my fingers the same day. I need to plan in advance. This usually requires me getting up at 4am, taking off of work, and getting up the tank, packing, and getting the corals to the airport at a reasonable time so they arrive to the east coast in the afternoon.
You have messaged me 3-4 times in a row within a hour or two before I had the chance to respond. I have tried my best to make not only my insane moving schedule and timeline work to get corals to you, but also be fair to your schedule while prioritizing the health of the corals. I am sorry if that has meant a slight delay in shipping to you. But you have to understand that when shipping colonies it is not as easy as throwing them in a bag and shipping them overnight and letting them sit.
You also opened a paypal case before even asking me for a refund. After shipping 8-10 overnight orders on tuesday I drove 2.5 hours back to Chicago and logged onto R2R to respond to my messages, I responded to you and as I did you opened a Paypal case. I offered you a full refund via paypal, minus the fees that paypal takes (Out of my control)....which is being graceful as deposits are typically non refundable. You denied my refund over the $35 fees that you want me to eat.
Listen I get it, we all want our corals right away and thats fair, but when we are shipping large colonies, their safety is the #1 priority and has always been my priority.
So turning this public and trying to tarnish my name and thread is a bit unfair.
This is being framed very differently than what actually happened, so I'll address the points you've raised.
First, I never expected you to "throw them in a bag and ship them overnight" or to ship at the snap of your fingers. I understood from the beginning that these were large colonies and that cargo would be the safest option. I was willing to work with you on cargo and repeatedly tried to find a date and flight that worked. I also have a full-time job and family obligations, so asking me to drive an hour to an airport late at night or make other significant arrangements isn't something I could simply accommodate on any given day. Most of my availability was for a morning to mid-day pickup timeframe. I cannot help that you were unable to easily ship in the morning, that was not made aware at time of purchase.
My expectation was based on the timeframe you gave me. When I paid the deposit, I was told the corals would be cut and shipped in approximately a week to a week and a half. I didn't hold you to an unreasonable same-day shipping expectation. I waited approximately three weeks while we worked through the logistics.
During that time, my requests for pictures were not unreasonable either. I was asking to see the specific corals I had paid $1,320 toward, particularly after the expected shipping timeframe had passed. I was told pictures would be provided, and on more than one occasion they were not provided when promised.
As for communication, sending multiple messages when I had not received a response does not mean I was being unreasonable or unwilling to work with you. I was trying to get an update on my purchase that was already significantly past the original timeframe. I also don't think it's fair to characterize my questions as wanting the corals "right away." I waited three weeks.
Regarding PayPal, I opened the case because I had reached the point where I no longer had confidence that the transaction was going to be completed. I was not required to wait indefinitely for a response before protecting myself through PayPal. When you subsequently offered a refund minus the PayPal fees, I declined because I don't believe I should be responsible for fees associated with a transaction that wasn't completed.
Finally, I have never disputed that you may have had legitimate logistical difficulties or that you wanted to prioritize the health of the corals. I understand that you're a hobbyist and that this isn't your full-time job. What I disagree with is the characterization that I was unreasonable or that I cancelled "without cause." I paid a substantial deposit, waited three times the original estimated timeframe, repeatedly attempted to work with you on shipping, and repeatedly requested pictures and confirmation that the corals were ready.
I don't think either of us benefits from continuing to argue about this publicly. I'm simply documenting my experience for people considering the purchase. They can read the correspondence and decide for themselves whether my expectations were unreasonable.
That's great. Like I said in my first message on this thread, most people probably didn't have issues, but I did. Glad to hear 20 other people got precedence over what was probably your largest order. If you have further concerns you can message me, discussing this publicly is unprofessional and unnecessary with the goal being simply to destroy my thread and slander me. The 20 other orders who received their corals have not had an issue. I have communicated, taken care of customers and replaced corals when shipping things out of my control have happened.
I am sorry this did not work out. If you have any additional comments you can message me personally.
