Acropora-When polyp extension is a bad thing

According to the book Marine Invertebrates by Ronald L.Shimek,"Many abnormal and deleterious conditions may also result in polyp extension." * Some of the examples provided included;

1.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and tissue recession might indicate a lack of food.

2.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and intact tissues may indicate a lack of calcium.

Are there any other times when good polyp extension is a bad sigh?

I never liked when my nutrients were too high and certain acros displayed fuzzy brown polyps. Not sure if this made them unhealthy, but I didn't like the look.

Would like to know because I just got my first acro a few weeks ago and although it looks like it's doing fine I haven't seen its polyps extending out any

I knew about the calcium polyp extension but the "food" one is new. I wonder what they specify food as.

All things being said , i would much rather see PE than not.
In other words if you feed regularly and maintain your parameters levels PE is a good thing.
Also not entirely sure how but dosing amino acids helps with PE.
(I was told by my LFS) Coincidentally i have been dosing AA for a bout 12 months and have great PE.

I like to use Amino acids myself.I need to find a good bulk supply so I can dose them on a more regular basis.

The author mentions baby brine,rotifers and other fine particle foods.
