Acropora with extra thick tissue

I noticed that one of my milles has corallites that look flatter, darker, and with much thicker tissue. Curious if anyone has seen this before. I’m 99% confident that it’s not AEFW or bugs since I went through a major eradication exercise over 3 months. I have been dosing more traces via BRS balling hybrid approach.

Sorry I tucked the question in the middle. I’m asking about the circled areas where the tissue is extra thick and corallites look a bit deformed. Better photo below. Should I be worried?

I wouldn't be to concerned yet.

Just assure you don't have spionid worms or the like.
Keep an eye on it.

Cool! Always helpful to get a second eye. I’m relatively new to acropora.

Unfortunately this growth anomaly is starting to spread across the colony. After doing some research it seems to be a case of dark spot disease. Anyone encounter this / fixed it before?

I’ve seen that some come with little fan worms or whatever they called attached, but they r good, nothing wrong with them! Adds some more life to the acro if u ask me

It's a shame with such a pretty colony but you'll probably wanna get a couple cuts off of it. You might get lucky but if it is DSS it's likely the whole coral has been infected. I had a Bill Murray with what I presumed was DSS and the three frags I cut off of it ended up dying as well.

This was probably six months ago and nothing since has showed any signs of it. I went down the rabbit hole a little bit on it but kept hitting dead ends. It is such a slow progression maybe our pieces were infected at purchase? Spots on mine were grey then turned brown.

Did you do any changes at that time that may have provoked it? I know for me, it started in conjunction with more aggressive carbon dosing. I had also been raising trace element dosing under BRS Balling Hybrid, but those are the two factors I’ve changed.

I don't think so. The tank was still kinda young but pretty much on cruise control. Funny thing was at the time it was definitely my fastest grower. I did try my hand at carbon dosing a couple months ago and had really bad results. I dosed nopox at 1/2 tra for a month and had several colonies start to brown out. Stopped dosing and did a 50% and they came right back. I'll take nitrate over pathogens any day.

I’m sure you were just as frustrated as me right now. Grew it out to be a nice colony, and now these dark blistered areas are an eye sore. I think I see it mostly on my milles. Not sure if fragging healthy parts will even make a difference. I just ran an ICP. Will see if it’s possibly trace related but man it sucks to trouble shoot this, especially after adding some new milles.

I see a healthy growing Millie. Many can’t grow a colony that size at all. Don’t overthink it!

I still have some flatworm stop which I think has it. Maybe I can give it a try. ICP came back with some major deficiencies in fluoride, iodine, and barium.
