I'm looking at an acrylic tank and acrylic sump combo, but the display needs buffed. I have deep knowledge in auto paint and sanding and buffing so I'm not afraid to do it, however the chemicals in the buffing compound I'm used to seems like that's a bad idea inside a tank.

What buffing compounds are considered safe?

Novus 3 and Novus 2 can be used instead of the auto buffing compounds. For deeper scratches I use trhe same grit sand paper used for auto body work but do additional sanding with 5000 and 9000 grit lapping paper.

+1… have buffed out many tanks over the past 30 years… can make a 30yr old tank look like new!

Check out micro mesh for acrylic. I think Pentair Aquatics sells it in a kit form. It is used for aircraft windshields.
