I have a live rock I've had in a separate aquarium for a long while, it is crawling with mysid shrimp. I had intended on adding them to the 200g I am still setting up, but I just read that they will limit the copepod population.

Should I add them? Or should I not? I want to make sure I have a good pod population for the mandarin and other fish.

It’ll get eaten by the fish long before it will do any damage to your pod population

Lol I figured as much, but also didn't know if they'd just grow in the refugium sump and eat all pods.

If you feed them periodically, your pods will be fine.

Pods are great at hiding and they won’t be wiped.

Although it also does defeat the point of a refugium as it serves as a way to pods to hide from the DT and seed it periodically

I have mysid and pods of all sorts and a wrasse that loves to eat both. I have never seen the mysid make it to the tank unless I net some out and put them there which if done when lights are on they last all of 1 min maybe. I have seen pods on the glass in both the tank and fuge so if the mysid eat the pods they dont do it at a rate that is detrimental to the pod population. When I feed I dont turn off the return pump and I also dont use mechanical filtration I have seen food go into the fuge, so when I feed my tank I am feeding the critters in the fuge.

Alternatively, you could package up some and sell them to me! 🤣
