Just added a Mini Q to my AIO, my first skimmer ever.

Does this look correct?

(I know it’ll change as it breaks in, just want to see if this is a good reference)

Thanks!

IMO, it looks like your water level is too high in the skimmer, and you need more air. The bubbles should have more space between them.

Thank you, I woke up today and it was full of water, I know a lot will change over the coming days so I appreciate the input. Gonna go raise it some now.

There should have been a sticker on the skimmer telling you where the water level needs to be, at least mine has one. Once at the correct level I just had to adjust the air until I was getting more foam and less water. I did not want to have to empty the thing a couple of times a day. Really, I have no idea what it should look like, I just judge based on how much nasty stuff shows up in the cup and me not having to empty it of water every day.

Mine does have the sticker but every video I watched said to have it more out of the water so I initially placed mine with the sticker almost 1/2 inch above the water surface.

I’m with you, I’ve watched several videos and they all just look like bubbles in mine, not the thick stuff the videos show. I’m sure it’s because I’m still breaking it in and the size of the skimmer.

I am not sure how thick they should be, but this is what mine looks like at the moment. It tends to fluctuate, I assume based on the amount of solids in the water.

How is your bioload? If you have a low bioload, you will notice very inconsistent skimmate.

Fairly new IM15, low bioload. Tailspot Blenny, a couple of hermit crabs, couple of cerith snails and peppermint shrimp. I think i feed pretty light. I am fine with the way the skimmer is working at the moment.

I had to raise mine higher than the mark. I don't remember exactly how much, it was trial and error. I let it overflow for a week before I started trying to get it adjusted. That seems to help with new skimmers.

My feeding has been better, phosphates (.23) have been on the high side.

Look correct from the side?

Only day 4 with it and still getting brown tinted water, starting to build up some “tar” on the inside neck though so that’s exciting!

Thanks again!
